My husband is in the military and we will be relocating to Germany this summer. I would like to know are there any military wives out there. I am a RN and would like info on the job situation over there and how would one apply for a hospital (military) position.

Im an army wife in Oklahoma. Germany is an awsome place!! While I was not (nor am I yet) an RN while there, they do have very nice Military clinics/ hospitals there. Working in a civilian one is not good if you dont fluently speak German. I suggest you check out the SITES website. It gives you great info on the area your going to, the hospitals (with phone number... might want to call to see about trasfering there) I do believe that any state licence will work in a government hospital overseas. Give them a call and ask...

I am not a military wife/nurse but I am curious. Can a civilian nurse work at the clinic on the base or must the nurse be military?

Smilingblue eyes, are you at fort lewis? I lives there many moons ago when my hubby was in the army! I loved it! Had my first child at the old Madigan medical center!

I was a military wife (hubby now retired) and lived overseas for 12 years. In Germany - Ramstein is the big medical center - its actually located in Landstuhl AB - just down the road. They hire civilian RNs - because like everyone else - there is a shortage. Also overseas there is the military spouse employment act which says that military spouses have to have preference. Make sure you take your licenses, certifications, etc., with you. You'll find it easier to get all your ducks in a row before you go. You might want to consider joining a national organization. I'm an ER nurse - so I belong to the Emergency Nurses Association and get loads of info from them so I can keep up to date. Good luck!!!! BTW - how about contacting the hospital before you go? A lot of times - they'll talk to you informally and you can get a feel for the place.

There is a great nursing shortage in Germany too, so I don't think it will be hard to find a job. But the lingo is important.
