Hi all, I am currently and LPN in new york and i am considering relocating to GA, I'd say perhaps gwinnett county, lawrenceville , marietta, and probably auburn!...lol...but Is the pay rate for LPNs in Ga really that low..i am currently working on my RN through Excelsior..but i thought i I could at least make 18/hr i should be ok....what places in these areas start off at least at 17/hr.. im not really into LTC...but i am willing to do assisted living and so forth..can someone shed some light as to how much an LPN REALLY makes in these areas??..lol...and how does Home Health look like for an LPN...any advise or suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated..thanks

I was offered $6/hr less in atlanta than I'm making in Denver.

New grad RNs are starting for $20/hr in Athens GA.

So depending on experience, that might not be far off. GA pays slightly more than FL, but significantly lower than most Northern states.

The cost of living (COL) here is A LOT less than New York State or Miami. So $17/hr may not sound like a lot, but you have to take into consideration the COL.

actually After reading how much the LPN gets paid in GA...Fl pays a whole lot more...anywhere from 16-18 plus diff (in hospitals)...LTC facilities 18-20/hr..and agencies run at 20-30/hr depending on the acuity of the visit..this is Home Health Im talking about...i thought it was great when i lived in Miami about 6 months ago...and yeah the cost of living is a lil higher but compared ti NY its slightly lower...Im wondering if nurses in Ga do home Health visits and how much their hourly/per visit rate is...yes the cost of living in GA is lower but i think making anywhere from 17 to 18 an hour wouldn't be so bad..until i get my RN...

Here am I seeking employment ,foreign trained ,NYSED license ,but petitioning is the problem .There are agencies out there who feel they can trick and fool educated foreigners,hence we had to do our own home work and seek the best offers. it may not be exactly what we want but we will chose the closest best.

I had an offer for 28.50/hr in new york but the terms of the contract is insane.

Why should i work as an HHA for $190 per week for God knows how long (after 15 yrs RN experience) .I paid all my exams flights and other expenses ,asking me to pay my petition fee yet all my time for the period of the contract belongs to you.How can that be ? We are not beggars .

I have been doing some research on various websites that contain average RN salary and average cost of living in each state. Although salary wasn't as high, the lower cost of living moved Georgia up the list to be 7th or 9th in Georgia as best states in the country. Compare California, which is the #1 state for pay but they have a high cost of living, which takes them down to the 30's on the list of states with the best standard of living.

Georgia is one of the states I'm considering moving to after I finish nursing school.

I am an lpn and lived in atlanta for 4 years, the job market for lpn's is next to nothing, i lost every thing i owned due to lack of lpn jobs, georgia is a RN state they only want RN status no lpn's. even though i have 6 years in high tech peds, med surg and tele, even have some icu experience, when they see that your an lpn they have no words for you. i even asked for a position at a certain hospital as an aid, they said no that would be a conflict of interest,yeah... a conflict i say i know what their talking about, they would hire me as an aid, but if they were short staff of nurses they would have to ask me to work the floor under my lpn license. anyway the pay in atlanta for lpn's suck if you can even find a job, but if you are an RN, and you know how to hussle, then you can get paid as much as 40/hr agency that's with a 13 week contract, if you don't want agency and work at one of the higher paying,safe hospitals the starting salar for a new grad RN is about 20-22 per hour , then if you work nights the shift diff is about 4.50/hr. i would advise if a new Rn grad wants to make some money, work in a hospital let them train you for a speicialty such as icu,pacu,l&d ,that usually requires a signed contract from the hospital for a comentment of a year. then after that year work agency BUT only with a contract and you can make really good money working 3 days a week.I myself have moved back to miami and i bring home about 7500.00 per month working with one yes one ten year old patient. I'll move back to atlanta after i finish RN school and have about 60-70 thousand in the bank for insurance purposes only!

I agree with Tourislpn. I hear people say that Florida and Georgia pay the same and that is not true, Florida Pays way more, well at least south florida.
