Hi, I was wondering if anyone is from Mississipi State, Mississipi, and know of a community college there w/ a Nursing Program (ASN).

Hi... Are you moving to MS??? Just curious.. My husband graduated from Mississippi State.... I am originally from MS.... There is a Univeristy about 30 mins from MS State called MUW (Mississippi University for Women) they have an ADN and Bachelors program... As far as community colleges I am not aware of any close to MS State... There is East Central CC in Decataur, MS ... Their website is http://www.eccc.cc.ms.us They have an ADN and LPN program.. I checked on the maps and it is 1 1/2hrs from Starkville/Mississippi State... To be honest your best bet would be MUW.... I went there for 3 semesters as a nursing major before I moved.... Hi Ana. I'm in Pearl River county close to the Louisiana border and Pearl River Community College is supposed to have one of the best ADN programs in the state. That's what I hear, anyway.

If you are going to be in the Starkville area, then MUW MUW.edu will be your best bet. They have both ADN and BSN programs, and accept both men and women.

Hinds Community college is the ADN program for the Jackson area, if you are up to boot camp .http://www.hindscc.edu/Departments/Nursing/AD_Nursing/ But Mississippi College would be my local preference.

hi brita I have a friend ,actually my next door neighbor who is going to pearl river cmmunity college. Its not to far from where i live actually. good luck with school

i don't know what part of mississippi you are possibly moving, but i attended http://www.mcc.cc.ms.us/newhome/anewpage2.htm in meridian. i took a couple of pre-reqs a few years back. all the best to you!

Just curious why do say Hinds is like boot camp? I am starting ther in Jan.

Hi Mark. I'm not in school yet, waiting to get some funds together, but thanks anyway. I'm about 30 miles away from Pearl River Community College in Picayune.

i used to live in picayune now i live about 10 miles south of there. i am sure you will get there soon if that is what you want,:)

My theory on nursing schools:

There are two types of nursing schools. The "Welcome to the nursing profession" and the "Boot Camp" varieties. I have seen the odd school that is a mixture of the two. Boot camp is simply an expression I use for a program that I think is more stressful that it needs to be. Other people may disagree. Most nursing schools are of the boot camp type, in my opinion. Hinds is too. It is an excellent program, and it produces great nurses. It is also a hard clinical program--I won't kid you there. Lots of competition.

The other type, the "welcome aboard" type of school is far more rare-- judging by posts by students on this board. At one such school with which I was acquainted, they referred to their first semester students as "baby bunnies." Mustn't stress the students too much.

Don't worry about Hinds. Good school. great NCLEX pass rate. You'll do fine.

Thanks guys!! I don't know anything about MS, but would prefer something near Mississipi State University. Any recommendations on an area near by? What about the public school system? Any good? I have 2 small children, and that is an important factor to consider if we move or not. Your answers will be of great help. We are planning on going there by the end of this month. Any neighborhoods we should look at? Thanks.
