Hello to all -

I have applied to an ADN program for fall 2007 entry & I'm trying to get prepared while I have the time to. Everyone is raving about how smart & helpful it is to purchase an NCLEX book, that it is best to get the book and coordinate it to what we are learning during our training so we can review for chapter/unit tests as well as prepare for the NCLEX at the same time. There are SO MANY different ones out there. I bought one (Saunders Q & A Review for the NCLEX-RN Examination, edition 3) just to see what I could expect the NCLEX to be like. This edition is laid out differently than what others have described. Can you please tell me which Saunders NCLEX book(s) you have used that have been helpful to you? (Since they are shrink-wrapped, it makes it so difficult to decide!)

The one that I have heard the best things about is the Saunders Comperhensive NCLEX-RN...I cannot say first had cause mine is on it's way to me now!!! I have a Kaplans and I like it OK..It is mostly stradegies. BTW I will be graduating in May...never even thought about buying NCLEX before school started!! WOW!!

Suzanne4 is our resident kind person here and she has a plan that is based on the Saunders book.

I have a copy of Saunders Comprehensive Review for the NCLEX-RN Examination, Third Edition, by Linda Anne Silvestri that comes with a CD (ISBN 1-4160-3199-5 and ISBN-13 978-1-4160-3199-4). Although it has practice questions in it, it is organized so that it lists the basic and important components of information you need to know about the various areas of nursing. It will give you lists of the signs and symptoms to look for in various disease states as well as the nursing interventions that should be taken. I think this is probably what you will want to have. I use this book as a reference (I've been an RN for 30 years) when I am answering questions for students on the forums to make sure I haven't forgotten anything when I am responding to questions. This book is 1240 pages and I forget what it's cost was. You can find that information by looking for it on Amazon or Barnes and Nobles websites.

it has "select all" and priority questions and it states that it follows the current format of the NCLEX exam. I think it is a great book!

I hope that a review guide does not confuse you while in school. By the time you are ready to take the test there will be changes in NCLEX-RN testing.

there is no way a Saunders review book could confuse a current student. It is set up in sections by disease, meds etc. I have used my Saunders to study for tests while in school. The format may change a bit in 2 years when she is ready for the NCLEX, but this book will be extremely helpful.

I used to be a supervisor for both Barnes and Noble and Borders books and just because something is shrink wrapped doesn't mean you can't open it. Don't be afraid to ask the sells clerks! We *always* told customers they could take the shrink wrap off (just please restick any stickers that might be on the outside of the shrinkwrap so you are charged the correct price).

Most books just came to us that way, and if something needed to stay shrink wrapped, we would just reshrinkwrap it..no big deal!
