Anyone graduate from here? They have a 2 year RN program. Are the credits transferrable if I decided at a later date to get my BSN? I asked the lady on the phone but she has me more confused than before I called. They also are 'seeking' accreditaion, which she said is a 'formality'..huh?

What you need to do is call the college and find out what universities their credits transfer into. Here in CA, the UC system will not accept transfers from the community colleges, but the Cal State system will.

I would definately watch out for this. Call them back and try to speak to another person.

That would be a VERY BIG red flag for me. I don't know about your state, but in my state, you are required to graduate from an accredited school of nursing in order to sit for boards.

From what I know of Platt College they are pretty fishy!!! I actually considered them first but after hearing they weren't accredited and had been trying since something like 2000 I decided just to stay locally and go to LVN school. As far as I know no one in OK or TX will accept work completed there.

Hey hun it's me again. It is my opinion that you should choose one of the colleges on the website I gave you. You KNOW those are good. And going to a real college is better in my opinion than a vocational school that is seeking accreditation. Don't worry about money! You can call local hospitals and ask if they give loan reimbursment or scholorships to nurses who will work for them. Community colleges aren't too expensive either, and with financial aid and scholorships you will be fine.

I don't know exactly what to do. I might just have to go get a CMA after 10 months so I can work my way throught the rest of college. I am only eligible for $6600 financial aid and no other money coming my way for a while. This is more difficult than I thought. I just found out it's going to take a year of me just taking pre-req's just to get into TCC...So basically 3 years and I don't have three years or the tuition. Lots of thinking...Thanks so much for your input.

Trust me there are ways you can pay for college. I am a single mom, 22 years old, and a full time student. I don't work. With clinicals it's almost impossible to have a job and be a nursing student. If you really want to do this it's possible. The 6,600 is for fall and spring semester then you are eligible again the next year. You get financial aid each year. I recommend that you go to TCC.

Before you get into the nusing program the financial aid will cover most of your costs. You will still probably owe around 1,000 for books and financial aid won't completely cover everything because they divide it into semesters. so for fall you will only get 3,300 if you qualify for the full amount. You can either set up a payment plan or take out a non interest loan. The loan won't be for much and as you can see your college has a program that pays off your loans for time worked at hospitals. You are not accountable for making payments on your loans until you get your degree. It is going to take me 3 years (I have finished 1 already) but that is the best way to do it when you have children. And it's really the best way to do it overall. Trust me you can do this! Make good grades and work hard and you won't have to worry.

It was my understanding that they go by your household income. My husband makes like $50,000 a year...Not that I see any of that personally as he pays all the bills and has little left over. It stinks that I get denied these things because of his income. We don't even share a checking account. It would be easier if I was a single mom with no income, then I would have tons of ways to do this. I like my husband, so I plan to keep him though...lol

This is what I found out about Platt:

The educational objective of the degree program is to provide the student with a thorough understanding of nursing science and to prepare the student for success in the national licensure exam, NCLEX-RN. Upon successful passing of the NCLEX-RN, the graduate will be qualified to work as a registered nursing in any healthcare setting. The curriculum is designed to meet the health care needs of the community while addressing the critical shortage of registered nurses.

The LPN-RN program received provisional approval from the Oklahoma Board of Nursing in November 2003. Provisional approval is required until the first class members graduate and take the NCLEX-RN. The Oklahoma Board of Nursing will re-survey the program in Feb 2005 for full approval status. Platt College is accredited by the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges of Technology (ACCSCT). The LPN-RN program is seeking accreditation from the National League of Nursing Accreditation Commission (NLNAC). Initial application is in process with an initial survey visit scheduled for Feb 2005.

Does this mean that they are just like any other vocational school? I can't do three years total at TCC, and frankly those people down there are so rude, I don't know if I ever want to go there...
