Lets say someone got into an accident and this person is in the hospital and as a nurse you are to list concerns of his ability to perform his daily living. Does it depend how bad the patient is injured?
Think about this. Would someone with a head injury have the same degree of impairment as someone with a broken arm? Would someone who broke his non-dominant arm have the same degree of limitations as someone who broke his dominant arm or dislocated his shoulder of the dominant arm?
When assessing someone's ability to perform their ADLs, remember that you are really assessing whether the patient can perform them safely. If a patient performs them but is vulnerable to slips, falls, and repeated injury, then they can't really perform them, can they? Good luck with your assignment.
