2 Year Track Nursing

Published

Hey people!!

I need some help here. I'm finishing my pre-nursing requirement at the end of the coming spring (anatomy, physiology, psychology, statistics, microbio). I also finished all of the General Education Requirements.

However, I have done a lot of research but could not find a schools in California that offers a two path. Most of the schools are 6 semesters, or 8 quarters, but I have no record of schools that I have 4 semesters...or two year program.

I ran across CAL STATE Long Beach's Two Year program...But...They're only accepting 36 people.

Do you guys know any schools that offer a 2 year program in any state. I will finish all of my General Education, so I will directly start on the nursing ciriculum.

Thanks

Missouri has several that are 2 yr. programs. HTH

I'm actually looking for a university...not a two year college...

Specializes in NICU.

New Jersey: UMDNJ, Rutgers, Seton Hall, Willam Patterson, Farleigh Dickinson...all universities

Specializes in ED, ICU, MS/MT, PCU, CM, House Sup, Frontline mgr.

Most University programs are two year programs technically if you already knocked out your basic non-nursing courses. I have a friend who is transferring from my CC to a University as a Junior. She will spend the next two years doing her clinical course work only.

Is that what you are talking about? Transferring as a Junior? If so, you can do so in California too. The only problem is, as with many Universities or CCs around the country, spaces in Nursing Programs are limited and competitive! So there is no way around that reality. Good luck. :)

Specializes in NICU, High-Risk L&D, IBCLC.

I am in the 4-year program at University of Missouri-St. Louis (prereqs first two years, clinical courses last two years). I transferred there after doing prereqs at Ventura College and got in with no waiting....however I hear now that there is a waiting list so check it out if you're interested. The school also has an accelerated BSN (15 months) that you can get into without having a bachelor degree already but you have to have at least a 3.2 GPA and it's extremely competitive. The school is great and cost of living in St. Louis is very reasonable.

Specializes in LDRP.

I just wanted to add that you may run into having to have DIFFERENT pre-reqs at another college--there is NO guarenteee that any school will take the classes you have finished. I learned the hard way. This happened to me when I moved out of state--had to move back due to this and the wait lists out there (see my other posts for the whole story). Also, you will probably encounter waiting lists at most schools-from 1 semester up to three years. Do LOTS of research and contact ACTUAL nursing offices before you move somewhere for school, get everything in writing, and I advise you not to move anywhere without and acceptance letter in your hand.

GL!

Oh, Florida, Texas, Georgia and Missouri all have 4 semester plans.

There are TONS of schools-where do you want to move is the question.

And let me show you a pre req example:

At my 1st school I needed (in addition to nursing classes):

Anatomy and Physiology 6 (combo class)

Microbiology 5

Composition and Reading I 3

United States History

Human Lifespan Development 4

Sociology 3

Fundamentals of Speech

Intro to Cell Biology

General Psychology 3

Now, at one of the schools I tried to transfer my credits to, I needed (Bold are ones I didnt have to have)):

Literature

Oral Communication/Speech

College Composition I

Human Anatomy and Physiology I & II

College Algebra

Microbiology

General Psychology

Humanities class (sociology)

Nutrition

So, when I got to that school, I had taken a lot of classes that I wouldn't need, they wouldnt take my NURSING classes I had finished w/ A's, and they wanted me to finish these other classes before applying to their program. AND there was a 2 year waiting period from application. I also found out I couldnt jump right into Algebra w/ my Compass score (needed another math), so I was looking at at least a year of pre reqs and 2 yrs waiting after all that--

I moved back to my old state and will be finished with my ADN in 3 semesters as opposed to 3 YEARS!

Crazy, huh?

I just dont want ANYONE to make the same mistake--I had called around before moving but had nothing in writing. I was told by the new schools nursing director that they had NO obligation to me as I was NOT one of THEIR students--it didnt matter that I had a 3.44 GPA, great recommendations and was 1/4 my way through nursing classes. They are so crammed with students they just wont try to accomodate anyone coming in from other schools.

Oh, and I applied to 7 schools in the new state with the same results--more/different reqs, huge waiting lists, etc.

I almost gave up on my dream, then my sweet husband made the decision to move us back so I could finish. My old school welcomed me literally with OPEN arms!!!!!! They put me right back into classes. YIPPEE!

I will be transfering as a junior, but most of the nusing programs I found at universities located in cali are based on a three year thing...the nursing courses is about 20-25 classes...can't really do all that in 2 years...that's what they told me..but i have heard of two year program...

Here are my courese:

Anatomy w/ Lab

Physiology w/ Lab

Microbiology

Psychology

Sociology

Statistics...

I also finish the IGETC...the General Ed. requirement...

Please Help...
