W's on Transcript

Hi,

I was recently denied to the Nursing Program in LIU, because of W's on my Transcript.

No one in the school ever mentioned to me this would be a problem. I saw some similar threads where the W's didn't count and they were still able to get into the Nursing program. Can someone please help me?????!!! I'm devastated and don't know what to do next. The advisor wasn't any help either.

I've already passed my TEAS.

THANK YOU!

How many do you have? Were they just withdrawals or withdrawals/ failing? Have you investigated other schools?

Different schools have different policies on W's and repeat of courses. It is too bad that this school did not make their policy known to you before now. Had you known about the policy would you have done differently? If you had legitimate reasons, such as illness, or death of a family member, it makes no difference. You get the same treatment as someone who sensed less than a desirable grade and quit the course to salvage their grade, with more time to study. All you can do at this point, is to find other programs that don't have such a strict policy. Good luck.

This is going to be very school-specific. Call around to other area schools to ask about their W policy.

Like others have said, how W's will impact your chances of getting in a program will vary from school to school. However, I don't think you should have too much trouble finding another school as long as the W's aren't in any of your core sciences (Micro/A&P).

My school has two different withdrawals: one with participation and one without. I have two withdrawals with participation which means the professor saw me come to class every day and do the work, try hard, paid attention in class, etc. They will not affect my entry into the program -- I do hold like a 3.96 GPA which helps in the matter. This is very school specific though.

Every school has their own policy for Ws. I would apply to other schools. Just because this school denied you doesn't mean you have to give up. It's a setback, but you can still be a nurse. Apply for next semester and if a nursing school doesn't post their policy on Ws then I would email the school and ask about it. Do it in email so that you have a copy of it just in case.
