what's wrong with me

So I am a new grad nurse. Started working at a clinic. While all the nurses seem to be helpful and nice, my doctor is not. A real Dr jekyll and Hyde type. Nothing pleases her. Never know what to expect

Since i am new i don't know much which also pisses her off. I never had any training just two days and i was on my own. Do i ever make mistakes. Yes. I am scared constantly. Can't sleep from worry. I forgot to chart a vaccination recently. I can't believe how much yelling from the dr. I am on my last threads on what to do. I worry that the clinic will get rid of me. By the way, everyone just loves this dr. I just think she doesn't like me because i am new and not her old nurse. It makes me sick to see her her be nice to others.

Forgetting to chart a vaccination is pretty major. Vaccines have to be accounted for (at least my region). What if the patient had had an allergic reaction?

First pull yourself together.

Speak with the doctor, acknowledge you errors. Ask her how you can improve to meet her needs.

I have never seen a doctor act like this until I worked in a clinic. In my experience, Yes, they can be beasts. This is their practice with their corner office and their personal patients and they act very differently than they do at the hospital.

Do you have a nurse manager you can speak to? If so, do that. Not "The doctor is mean", but "I think we got off on the wrong foot, what can I do to work with her more effectively?"

You can also talk to the doctor in a quiet moment.

I'm sorry. I have seen it happen for the very reason you describe- the doc didn't like her new nurse because she wanted her old one back. It can be rough.

I agree with the pp. The only thing you can do, is to be sure you chart as you go, 100% of the time. And to say "my goal is to be effective for you, I will be more mindful and careful going forward"

Make sure that you check in with your nurse manager, and ask for feedback and tips.

Yes, forgetting to chart a vaccine is a big deal. But nobody deserves to be yelled at and verbally abused. People make mistakes. We've had instances of our MAs forgetting to chart a vaccine. It's brought to their attention, and if it's a recurring theme, I ask them to help me brainstorm on a process change that will prevent this from happening. There is no need to yell, berate or harangue.

I agree with talking to your nurse manager or practice manager about the situation. Of course the physician has her pets that she treats well. But you know what? The true character of a person is demonstrated by how a person treats the people s/he does NOT like. And she sounds awful. I would have very little patience working for someone like that.

Two days orientation is NOT enough, especially for a new grad. Does Dr. Hyde know you are a new grad?

Yelling is not acceptable, no matter what you did. I don't think this scenario will improve. The doctor thinks she can mistreat the staff, and will continue.

If you can't sleep and constantly anxious.... it's time to get outta Dodge.

While I agree with this, it's not appropriate for the Dr to "yell" at the staff in the facility, assuming the OP literally meant yelling. If what was actually meant is "got my butt chewed out" that's a different story.

It's well known that some doctors are just difficult and some are hard on new nurses. The best you can do is be careful and cover your charting as you go. Assuming that this Dr is just difficult on new nurses, you're going to have to grin and bear it to some extent. It will take time for things to get better.
