I have just started work as a carer in the community, and by accident gave a client their night medication in the morning, my supervisor seems has told me off but I feel really bad about this, like I might be in the wrong job, has any one ever made a mistake like this before ??

What is a "carer"? Are you a nurse?

Med errors happen. Take the appropriate steps per policy. Forgive yourself and take measures to prevent it in the future.

My first real mistake as an RN (working at a boarding school for teenagers with mental health issues) was giving a pt vyvanse instead of vistaril at bedtime. It's a bad feeling, but we are human and we make mistakes. You just have to learn from them, and take corrective action to make sure it doesn't happen again.

Also wondering what a "carer" is.

Are you a support worker?

My guess is this patient is a CNA/Med Tech in a LTC in England. :)

Right patient? Right medication? Right dose? Right time? Right route? ALWAYS check before giving ANY medication, and it will help you to make fewer/no medication mistakes. Meanwhile, learn from this and don't allow it to happen by you in the future.
