Working while Reviewing: doable?

Published

Feeling unproductive and selfish for asking for parent's money for more than two decades now. If you would please share some of your life's experiences.

For those who have experienced working (as a nurse/ medical transcriptionist/ call center agent/ or any job) while reviewing (self-study/ review center) for any exams (NLE/ NCLEX/ IELTS). Please share your experiences and how did you handle it? Thanks a lot.

im working as a staff nurse and reviewing for nclex at the same time. during my off duties i would take the whole day reviewing. after my duty hours i would also consume my time reviewing, reading nclex materials and answering q and as which i have learned from all from allnurses. ive been doing this for almost 5 months. i hardly watch a television but i go out and relax once a week. i'l be taking the exam on august and hopefully i'll pass..:loveya:

there are a lot who doesn't enroll in a review center but have passed the nclex. i believe its just a matter of discipline and determination.:redpinkhe

totally! while i worked as an encoder before i started to review for my nle, i was poring over books and answering 50 questions a day on weekdays and on weekends i did 200 questions/day to evaluate how i analyze every problem.

now i'm on my nclex i'm doing the same thing. so yeah, i think it's very doable-- it's just a matter of time management and prioritization.

I know your plight silvermed...I am a second courser, sometimes the guilt of asking money to your parents kicks hard. My younger sibling is earning already, I feel so incapable and useless whenever bills start piling up.

I do part time lecturing to caregivers. I was also a nursing lecturer to minor subjects such as Socio Anthropology. After passing the NLE, I taught in a university for 1 sem while taking MAN. Right after my ATT was released, I resigned and focused on the NCLEX preparations. I really can't afford failing the NCLEX, it is a one shot deal for me so I really made sure that I pass. I gave myself 3 full months of undivided attention and lo and behold I passed. My sister sponsored my IELTS exam, right after NCLEX I really prepared for IELTS. While doing these, I got an agent to look for employment for me in the US. Right now I am petitioned to work in Montana. They are not asking for hospital experence since I will be in a long term facility.

After passing all my major exams, I was off to scouting hospitals for a potential job as a staff nurse. Since I am a lousy liar, they will not take me in simply because I am a NCLEX passer. If you want to be employed to have to lie!!! Just tell them that you have no plans of going to US. I am not just good at it. I think I will go back to teaching, right now I am a volunteer nurse in one of the government hospitals in Caloocan and I am continuing my MAN.

God Bless us all!!! Let us always stay positive amidst the ocean of negativism.:D:p

As long as you're diligent in reviewing. Giving yourself a good six months of long term review while is good enough in passing NCLEX compared to a focused non-stop review. Goodluck in your exams.

well i worked as a call center agent before... for 4 months.. i had to reschedule my cgfns exam because i wasnt able to review.. and now i have resigned from work and reviewing on my own..

i missed working already.. and of course earning money.. but i still have to wait for november to take my exam and that time il look for a job right away..

and just want to inform you that my family doesnt approve of me not working as a nurse in a hospital.. but to tell you frankly, i never liked nursing ever since..so this is really hard for me because i cant decide for myself..

"doable" is not even a word.

i passed the nclex last august while working in a call center. No review center, just pure hard work and determination. Used to bring my huge saunders books with me all the time, my colleagues were always laughing at em and calling me a nerd, but its all worth it now

get saunders comprehensive review, q & A, and get a cd of MoSBY high difficulty questions, that's it reviewed for 3 mos part time 4 to 6 hours a day

I think that working in a hospital and at the same time reviewing for the NCLEX is doable. That is what I am doing right now. Everytime i go on duty, I always bring my Saunders Comprehensive Review Book to read during the shift if we are not busy at that time. Everyday, I practiced a 100 questions after my duty hours. With Commitment,Discipline and a strong faith both on ourselves and God,we could achieve our goal of becoming an RN in the U.S.A....:)

Its doable. . . its just a matter of time management. Got some friends who did it. . . and they passed the exams with high grades. Good Luck and God bless

Inspiring stories! Now I'm not too sure whether I should resign from work to review for NCLEX. Come to think of it, it's so hard to look for a nursing job right now. I don't want to throw my job away. I think I'll sign myself up to reviewing while working too. I already made a time table to discipline myself....(I'm a sleep monster.XD) 5 months review while working should be okay...is it?

just to share my personal experience,..

I was new nurse then, hired in perhaps the biggest hospital in the country.. after able to adopt to my workplace after 4 months I started processing my Nclex. while waiting for such developments, i 'v done self review during my off days and after duty hours.after receiving my ATT. I decided to enroll in a review center, where i went during weekends..3months as i remember. fortunately, I pass Nclex at 75 questions!

Remembering those things, few ideas to share that maybe help me to succeed are:

1. prayers(God did unexpected and wonderful things!)

2. dedication to really pass

3. sacrifice and prioritize

4. effective time management

5. be-friend your co-workers so that they will help you in your job and scheduling!!

:yeah:
