its just a matter of decision, for me i decided to grab the opportunity because if all things fail, I cant still go back to my old job, call centers and BPOs are a dime a dozen now, mushrooming everywhere. I just want to give myself that chance, to be able to say that I tried everything to make it work. In the end, I think it will all be all that matters:D

i passed the nclex last august while working in a call center. No review center, just pure hard work and determination. Used to bring my huge saunders books with me all the time, my colleagues were always laughing at em and calling me a nerd, but its all worth it now get saunders comprehensive review, q & A, and get a cd of MoSBY high difficulty questions, that's it reviewed for 3 mos part time 4 to 6 hours a day

hi, i want to comment on the one that said that he will just try a call center because of the desperate times that nurses have right now looking for nursing jobs. I just want to share my experience though. I am a second courser and while I was studying i was working in a call center. In fact Ive been to three. Started as an agents and rose to the ranks of a floor supervisor. All of this while studying, I passed the NLE last june 2007, the nclex last august 2008, the ielts last september. As for me i have 0 experience. Why? Because I had the comfort zone of having a very good income, a prestigious job, great colleagues, etc. As i look back, I feel that I have wasted time because it really depends on what you really want, why you took up nursing in the first place. ME? Admittedly, I took up nursing because of the chance to earn big bucks abroad. That's why I was disheartened to see the lack of nursing jobs and the exploitation done by hospitals and health institutions in the country right now. That's why I chose to stay with my job, earning good, but always thinking and "nanghihinayang" sa course/profession ko. it all really depends on what you want. Is it a job or a career? As for me I want a career. that's why Ive decided to give up my job and start next week as a trainee in one of the hospitals here in PAsig. The pay is WAY smaller, but if you would look at the end of the tunnel one would see that this would only be a stepping stone to our dreams in the near future. MAybe I was fortunate to have landed a job as a trainee (after applying at countless hospitals... too many to mention here, and I lost count heheh)and eventual staff nurse after 3 months but that's beside the point. The point I am trying to make is that the decision you are about to make will determine the course of your life. Believe me, Call center life is no bed of roses, you may earn big, but as a career? I dont think so. I've suffered ill health, lack of social life, If youre looking at the short term, go ahead but if youre looking at the big picture please dont give up on your dreams. It may be hard for us here, but once youre over the hump, God will grant you a break. I plan to stay for a year or two, then probably apply for canada, Australia, or NZ or wherever where i can eventually bring my family (since i already have the required experience by that time). And yes, I've put my plans for US on hold due to the retrogression, such a shame, after spending so many hours and money on the NCLEX...well that's life you win some you lose some...I just know that I will win this time. And so will you...in TIME... GOOD LUCK

where is Quirino memorial hospital?Since the nurse is going to pay for his training, can he or she set up the sked according to his preference?As for me, I am still employed in one of the bigger BPO companies here and as much as I want to practice my chosen profession full time, I find it impossible due to having to support my family since the pay is low and some volunteer jobs even don't have pay!! To cut the long story short, can anybody please help me find a training nurse job or volunteer nurse job that i could probably do on weekends during my off?Desperately need experience already while at the same time need to support my family. ok Thanks for the info Mr. Silverdragon > So even if one gets an employer (sponsorship)and has all the necessary papers in file and in place, one will be definitely delayed by the retrogression. Pls correct me f I am wrong, but I find it very ironic that Nurses in the US are still very much in demand but foreign nurses like us who have the qualifications are barred from working there due to the retrogression set by immigration. I will be taking my IELTS very soon and I am seriously contemplating on applying for another country instead. Its so sad that I really wanted to work there in the States as the 1st choice thats why I took the NCLEX. Anyway that's just my opinion and that's just me! Thanks again for all your insight.

hi everybody! i am an RN and just recently passed the Nclex very recently. Although I have no solid hospital experience yet aside from my duty days back in college (graduated in 07) I can see that the biggest stumbling block for all of us wanting to work int he US is the retrogression. Correct me if I am wrong but is this retrogression part of a quota system applied to all nurse producing countries by the US? I'm not sure if I have my facts straight, so if you will be going thru an agency you will wait for a pretty lengthy time right? WHat if one is in the US already on a tourist or student visa, will he or she be covered by this retrogression?I've heard of some Filipino nurses who passed the local board and NCLEx (some even didnt take the CGFNS) who were able to bypass the retrogression this way, legally of course. With the help of a lawyer they were able to shift their visa status and able to work in either a hospital or home. But I guess that you would have to be physically in the US to do that. I mean is this really possible??I would highly appreciate any comments reactions that will either substantiate or counter this claim by other people. Thanks peepz!! :)

hi there I am an RN here in RP and just recently passed NCLEX and reading this thread makes me realize that its really hard getting some quality hospital experience here in the Philippines. I mean me and my friends have been trying to apply but to no avail. it seems that hospitals nowadays are resorting to some sort of "slavery" which is volunteer work without pay. I for one want to start my career here in our home country but it seems it really is hard to compromise between charity, service and self maintenance. Its such a shame this is happening to our country, especially with all the hoopla about having not enough medical personnel to service both urban and provincial hospitals because of the fact that medical institutions will not simply pay for what we are WORTH here. Its so sad.

hi to all nurses!!! i just passed the very recent licensure exam in my country (philippines)and am very interested in working in the US. A lot of my friends are in the process of applying for the california nclex but i have read in a lot of blogs and forums here in this site that california is not a very good choice for initial licensure exam because of the retrogression and slow licensure process. IS this true? coz I am torn between applying for california or vermont because i hear that in vermont it has a faster processing time and better reciprocity laws than in california. California would naturally be a more convenient decision for me since i have some relatives and friends working there, so they can help me out while i'm starting. Is it okay to apply in vermont and take the exam say , in a nearby state somewhere in the west coast? or is one really forced to sit for the exam in vermont/east coast?? please help, if anyone who has a good knowledge base on this matter, pls reply. am really so confused right now, after all it would be much more expensive for me to take the exam in vermont in the future when the time comes... would really appreciate a factual response on this one... thank you very much all!!!!!!
