hello everyone,
i just now got off work after going in a 5:30 pm last noc b/c the scheduling coordinator doesn't know how to schedule enough nurses, or she lets a group of 3 off on the same day:angryfire. i felt bad b/c adon had just worked 12 hrs so i volunteered to go in early:saint:. not a problem. until 6:30 rolls around and the day shift charge nurses who by the way, live together, were 15 min late and want to look at the schedule and pittle fart around:argue:. gave report got done at 7am, then had to count:yeah:. while giving report on one side of the building the don starts ranting and raving at the nurses station about i&o's not being recorded yet:banghead:. i explained the operative word was yet in that sentence. she made me stop what i was doing and chart i&o's before i could finish report:angryfire. this is all because state tagged the facility for documentation follow up. i clocked out at 7:25 am. long noc had to vent but still don't feel any better:o. it just makes me not want to go in early anymore b/c don does not make you feel appreciated. i wonder if she thinks, umm, wonder what else i can get out of her before she leaves:devil:. what about no overtime, which they have been preaching of late. thanks for letting me vent. hope tonoc goes better.

If you feel under-appreciated, overworked, and overwhelmed DO Not Work any extra. That may send the message you want to send. No one forced you to go in early. You felt sorry for the DON, well, do you feel sorry for her now that she was so unappreciative of your efforts. You need to learn to say NO, or do not answer your phone.

Don't feel sorry for anyone. It is not your job to bail the facility out of their obvious staffing problems, and you definitely shouldn't feel an obligation to "help them out." Your mental and physical health always should come first.
Look at it in this manner. Management is never going to feel sorry for anyone when they're sending people home due to low census or overstaffing.

Sorry for your crappy day. If working O/T and going in early aren't appreciated start saying no. Maybe if they don't get bailed out so much they will hire more staff. One can only hope.

I do feel for you. I know how it is to work nights, waiting for the day shift to come in and they are busy looking at the schedule, reading a magazine, etc..while we night nurses are waiting to start report and the narc count...then I get told to stop staying over???
People like that make my blood boil. :angryfire
Please try to have a better night!
