Hi all! I thought I would be good to start a thread where you can post who you are and where you will be working in the 2012 season. My hope is to get in touch with other nurses that will be attending my camp or nearby camps, and facilitate the same for others. So will start. I'm Alex, I'm an LPN, I will be working at Camp Indian Head, in northeast Pennsylvania this season. I was a nurse there last year.

I'm Susan, and I'll be at Camp Chestnut Lake this summer, which is near Honesdale, PA. I'm an LPN and I do pediatric home healthcare. I worked at another camp in the Poconos, Camp Lindenmere, as a general bunk counselor while in college, so I have some idea what to expect, but this will be my first summer as a camp nurse. My daughters and I are so excited, we've decided not to discuss it too much for a couple of months because we can't stand the wait! I would love to network with other local camp nurses. Good idea, Alex!!

Hi Cloudy Sue, I am also going to be at Chestnut Lake this summer! I just had to make a new AN profile as I can't seem to log on to my old one, it has been inactive for a long, long time. I look forward to getting to know you before June 26th. My daughter is joining me, she is 8 and it is our first year at camp also.
Hi, Jessmt, that's amazing! What a small world! My girls are 6 and 9, and the 9 year old is in third grade. Maybe our daughters will be in the same bunk! I saw your note re: interviewing w 8 camps, and I have to admit that I didn't do as much research as you did, I went with my gut instinct. So I am very encouraged that Chestnut Lake was your choice. I will message you!

Hi everyone! My name is Diego and I am hopefully going to start an accelerated BSN program this summer '12! So although I'm not in the running for any of these jobs i still wanted to ask what your experiences have been like working at camps? It seems like such an awesome application of the nursing skill set and I would love to hear more about it from those with the info. Thanks and have awesome days!

Hello, I will be going to Camp Vacamas in North jersey. This will be the 4 th year for me and my children. I most likely will not be there full time, I just took a dialysis job, so I will commute back to my job in Philadelphia which is 2 hours away. Last summer I left on the weekends to go back to work. My children remain at camp. We look forward to it each summer.
Well, I already got put to work at camp! LOL! I went to CLC's Spring Fling orientation yesterday, and in the middle of parent orientation, someone w a walkie-talkie walked in and whispered to an adminstrator. He pointed me out and motioned me to go with her, and next thing I know I'm being whisked away in a golf cart... to a boy with a nosebleed! My first case! It wasn't that bad, and it had already stopped, so I just cleaned him up and made an ice pack for him. I was tickled that they already put me to work! The place is incredible. I cannot WAIT for camp to begin! My girls are crawling out of their skins, they are so excited.

I'll be at Trailblazers Camp in Northern NJ. This is my first year doing camp nursing. I've taught allied health to high schoolers for the past six months and was an adult inpatient psych nurse for two and a half years. I haven't been away from home for this long in my life.
You will have a good time, camp is fun, as a kid and an nurse.
Are you familiar with Trailblazers Camp or are we not in the same company?
No I don't think so, ours is Traidwinds in Ny

My name is Robin and I will be the Health Director at Kamp Kiwanis in Taberg, NY this summer. This will be my fifth summer - I did three summers as an LPN, went back to school for my RN and then worked there last year and will again this year. It is a great place, I love the staff and all of the campers.
