Why are Nurses so mean to each other?

I can't quite understand it. Nursing students, pre-nursing students and Nurses come here for support and advice but unfortunately they are greeted with a bunch of negativity and discouraged by fellow Nurses. We are professionals. I know it makes it easy to say negative things because you're hiding behind your computer but this is childish behavior.

I understand this behavior is not everyone. I would like to thank those who have been supportive of myself and others.

I worked in the garment industry before this so nursing is all sunshine and roses compared to that.

I have had three jobs, one as a temp RN for a first grade child, one month at a cancer center, and six months at an endoscopy center.

I don't think you qualified for any disability leave because you hadn't worked there long enough. Don't know that you should have been reported to the board, but you don't just get to send in disability slips when you don't qualify for disability leave.

"I know the difference between being cruel or unkind, and giving sound realistic advice because I am not a moron."

Here in Lake Wobegon, where all the kids are above average....and have flawless self-insight....

That sounds a bit like a veiled threat. Odd.

Do you have the authority to make such a threat?

Triquee, do you have me confused with a site administrator? If I tell you to watch your speed at 9th and Main because there's a speed trap set up there, would you construe that as a veiled threat?

Odd indeed.

Your "threat" was directed at my post and I didn't take it that way at all. No worries. :)

I'll see your garment drama and raise you a PTO and playgroup. I've never seen anything like it outside of my brother's years in a fraternity...

Oooooo time for "staff review" lmao

Hey no suggestions LOL. We are just starting to have fun and become "unmean". Or wait is the intention to keep us "mean" by working up to a tizzy.

Stephalump,

In high school they sent us to volunteer at the local creche (playgroup) as part of the reproduction module of our science class. The lesson stuck for me ;)

Any time Geordi can be worked into a thread, you know it's great! :) To the topic at hand--I've worked in some pretty crappy environments and can tell you that I've found nurses to be normal human beings. Crazy, right? If you think that a personality transplant to be sweet and kind all the time is conferred with a passing score on the NCLEX, you're going to be very disappointed. Nurses are people, some are nice, some are nasty, most of us are anywhere in between and may vacillate between the two. I often wonder if those who scream the loudest about mean nurses have ever actually worked with others before.

Yeah but Geordi needs to work harder on not blowing up the engine room.

After the NCLEX I was broke so I couldn't afford the personality transfusion.

I don't understand that the amount of time that i was employed superseded the fact that I had bilateral foot pain to the point of not being able to work and my physician placing me on State disability. Isn't it the opinion of the physician, regardless of other factors for one to be able to use State disability, which I've paid into since age 16?
