i am entering my first med. surg. clinical and noticed that there were a lot of people who failed. i was hoping to learn from other's mistakes. i feel that through reading these posts i was able to grow. i was just hoping if there are others out there who have failed clinical's if you could tell me your story. the few post i have read have really help me and i would appreciate if you share your's or one you know about. :nurse:

i haven't failed but have known some that have. the majority of people that "fail" clinicals, have repeatedly made the same mistakes. they were told they simply weren't ready to move on to the next level.

you won't fail if you practice your skills. you also need to know as much as you can about the theory behind what your doing.

Sometimes an instructor has made a biased decision that you are going to fail before the semester has transpired but there is no way for you to know this until it is too late. This is rare.

The only one I know of personally was perpetually late for clinicals, rarely turned in care plans by the deadline, and always had some excuse (er, reason) why she couldn't be held to the same standards as the rest of the class.

Doing anything that will harm the patient is a big reason for failing the clinicals.

At the school I'm starting at I've heard pushing ANY IV meds without your instructor present will get you immediately expelled. No ifs and or buts.

In my school, it seems to be difficult to actually fail clinicals. The only person to do so was late many times, was told if late one more time he/she would fail. He/she was late again and was immedialtely dismissed from the program. My school really works with the students who make mistakes and commonly say "you are students...you are learning....you will make mistakes. Learn from them and never make them again."
