Which Laptop do you recommend

Published

Hi, for those of you who do own a laptop, which from the recently asked question Desktop vs Laptop seems like a lot choose laptop. I am in the same situation I was confused as what to get. I wanted a new PC I already have a desktop so I am gearing towards a laptop. Now I am just confused as to what kind to get. I want to spend no more than 1300. I have been going back and forth with Dell or Sony. I want a slim light one, not tooo heavy or bulky.mk How fast should the processor be. THe sony I was looking at was 1.73 mhz where Dell is 1.86 is that a big difference. Please if you could share your reviews as to what you may have or like and dislike.

Thank you

I have an HP PavillionZV5000. I paid $1200 for it about 6mths ago. It's a great laptop. has tons of memory and runs great. I'd recommend it to anyone. Also has a widescreen.

I love my HP Pavillion with widescreen too.

I have a Sony Vaio TR 3A that I bought in June 04 that I love - wi fi - goes everywhere. Has great amount of memory, small and portable.

I have an HP Pavilion as well, and it only weighs about five pounds. That is something else to consider when selecting, if you are going to be moving it ariund with you.

It has a 15 inch HD screen, can't ask for more.................

I actually bought a tablet convertible...it's just like a laptop, but if you imagine a regular laptop sitting in front of you with the screen open...imagine turning the screen around 180 degrees and then closing it, so the screen bit is facing up....then you take out the pen that came with it and just write. It can convert your handwriting (even MY handwriting which is a train wreck) to text.....but really, I prefer to keep it as handwriting. I bought it specifically for school, it will be my notebook for each of my classes. This way, everything is on my laptop...but during class I can do everything in my notes that I would in a paper notebook (write formulas, draw diagrams....whatever).

Using a program that came with my laptop (called Microsoft OneNote)....I can even make an audio recording of a lecture with my laptop and the program will synchronize the notes I write with the audio recording...so if I'm looking at my notes two days later and trying to figure out what the heck I was writing about....I can pull up that part of the audio recording. Since it has the keyboard as well...whenever I need to type (papers, etc) I can. With a 6 hour battery....the whole thing only weighs 4lbs too. It's the perfect school machine for me. Oh, my computer is an Thinkpad X41....it was a bit more than you wanted to spend though...it was about $1,800...but there are plenty of models out there that aren't as expensive.

As far as your questions...it's unlikely that you'll notice a difference between 1.73 and 1.86 mhz. And really, the trade off with a slightly slower processor is that the laptop might not get quiet at hot when it's running a lot.

Good luck in your search!

Peace,

Cathie
