Where Do You Study??

I study on my big couch.. I can lay everything out that I need and my computer is right next to me. I cannot study in the library because some people forget what the library is used for and talk on their cell phones or whatever. I have to have complete silence if I'm going to retain any information. I recently deleted my Facebook but before that I had a huge problem checking it the time so I have to put my phone up away from where I am or I will text all day long. I am entering second level next month and I am going to be changing some study habits as well. What some students did last semester was record the lectures that way you can listen to it on the way to school or home.. and I plan in joining a study group as well just have to figure out when to squeeze the time in?!?!?!

I was a single mother of three during my nursing program, my youngest was 9. I would record lectures and listen to them when driving to/from school or to/from clinical's. I would study while waiting to pick them up from their school's, or at their soccer practice and games. I also explained to my kids what to expect when I first started school, that I would not have the same time as did before to spend with them and how important it was for us as a family for me to graduate. I was always with them when not in school, but my mind was focused on the care plan I had to write or the test I had to study for.

They learned not to try to talk to me when I was in study mode, unless it was urgent. For some of my clinical's I carpooled with a few other classmates and we would quiz each other during the hour drive, which helped. I also found that playing classical music while I was studying helped. You just have to find what works for you.

I usually did the best at the school library with my iPod and some classical music. I also did well at Starbucks when it wasn't overly busy. I'm about to start an online RN-BSN program, and plan on spending a lot of time at Starbucks. When I'm at home I'm too easily distracted by video games and the lure of taking naps (especially since I work night shift).

I usually study in the bedroom -- I spread everything out on the bed, and I can be comfy in my PJ's. I have to have background noise when I study, so I usually turn on some music. I like to study alone, otherwise I get too distracted. I only "study" in a group when we're doing a review session or quizzing each other.

Someone else mentioned recording lectures and listening to them in the car -- I do the same thing with my notes. I also let them play at night when I'm sleeping (my mom swears by this -- she's been a nurse 20+ years).
