What would you think...

What would you think if you stuck a seventeen year old for a blood draw and the started to cry. I dont mean loud crying but tears were coming out of their eyes? Please be hounest I want to know if the nurses thought I was a baby about it.

I don't like it either. Most people don't. I wouldn't worry about it.

Be well!

Gosh, I would feel bad that I had hurt them and offer some compassion and explain that this would be over quickly. Sorry!

O they (all the nurses in the blood donation center, i was donating blood to myself for a surgery I will be having in mid aug) did. They all crowded around me and were all "o she is crying" that is one of the nurses actual words. I usually wouldnt have but i had had emla cream and it had just not been on the area that the needle actually went through the skin at so I was not expecting to feel it. i was so embarressed

What would I say? I'd say it was a perfectly normal thing that could happen with anybody. Nurses, doctors, lawyers, everybody... all cry at one time or another. I wish the EMLA had reached the stick spot though.

You have NOTHING to be embarrassed about. Hear me? NOTHING. A needle stick can be painful, and tears are an uncontrollable (for the most part) response to pain. Shame on anyone who made you feel embarrassed about it.

:yeahthat:

I am 39. I don't like needles. I had surgery last week, and when the nurse started my IV I cried. I even told her beforehand that I probably would. I even work with that nurse. heh. It's just what I do. :crying2:

Thanks all. These nurses did not try to make me feel embarrassed. they just knew that i had had multiple surgeries so probably MANY needles. Plus I get embarrased easily

I was a phlebotomist for ten years. I saw more tatooed tough guys freak out about having blood drawn. I've seen people pass out, have anxiety attacks, have to have 4 or 5 people hold them, and practically beg (whine) for their momma. And thats just the adults.

A few little tears is nothing to be ashamed of.

Also, imo, EMLA is basically worthless, It may help a little, but people expect painlessness, it don't happen.

Agree 100%.

Remember that everyone reacts differently to pain. We are all unique.

I have one sweet little elderly lady who laughs hysterically anytime she sees us coming with the needles. She HATES needles. Terrifed of them. So she laughs. :uhoh3: She's amazing.

So be who you are... and don't be ashamed of your uniqueness. (((HUGS)))

My mom is 56 years old and panics when she has to have blood drawn. Then when they are taking the blood, she tells them she can feel it being sucked out and that her arm feels lighter.

I thought she was saying all this to be funny, then I realized that she was completely serious. :chuckle

My 14 year old niece has a fit over shots. The last time, they actually had to hold her down. She was crying and trying to leave!
