What are your personal perceptions about qualitiy of care and health promotion for a dying patient?
How would it affect your care?

I'm not sure I understand your question. Why would you be concerned about health promotion is the pt is dying?

Can you tell us what info you have already as I suspect this might be a homework question?
That's exactly my question. It's an assignment I have. And it doesn't really make sense. Why would you worry about health promotion for end of life care? Yes homework assignment.
Just wanted to throw it out there to see how others responded to the question. And it was exactly how I felt.

Does this mean... what do you think about keeping a dying patient alive as long as possible? That is kind of what it means to me.

It seems to make sense to me...a dying patient still needs quality care. As far as health promotion, I thought of the developmental/psychological tasks to be accomplished by a dying patient (think Erikson). I think the question is asking what constitutes proper nursing care for a dying patient (in your estimation).

I'm with Always Learning...there is still health promotion for the dying patient. There is still the psychosocial aspect to deal with, along with keeping the pt from needless suffering. For instance, if the dying pt had a trach, would we still perform proper trach care, or let it slide because, well, he/she will be dead soon anyway? We would still give the dying cancer patient pain meds- that constitutes quality care.
I would tend to think along those lines...
