i noticed there's a sticky about how foreign-educated nurses can break into the US job market. i hope there's one about foreigners studying nursing in the us, too. thanks!

First you graduate. Then you apply for VSC and pass NCLEX.
Then you get an attorney, a job offer and file for AOS.

Thanks Starbin.
There has been a sticky for international students in the US for some time.:)
i was looking for something like nrskaren posted...a flowchart of basic steps....nursemargo gave an answer more like what i wish to see although i didn't see the visa concerns ,i.e. after school (OPT) and before finishing OPT.
i've been seeing international students sticky quite prominently but since it's a long thread and posts include random topics, i can't quite determine the proper flow of steps...

I know of some company's that offer the assistance to foreign educated nurses. I guess it depends where you are coming from. E me if u have any ?s.....good luck!!!!
That flow chart that was posted, actually is no longer correct for almost all states. CGFNS exam is only required for MI, others just need the CES in most cases, or endorsement froma nother state.
The steps are essentially the same for a US trained foreign nurse, the only thing that is waived is the English exam,s provided that you got your initial nursing training in the US. If just the MSN, then you will need the English exams. You will need to pass the NCLEX exam, and get a Visa Screen Certificate.
If you would like me to design and put up something, I will be more than happy to do it. But you need to have the same things that the other foreign nurses need, except that you are essentially following the AOS(Adjustment of Status) route, since you will already be in the US. You need to have passed NCLEX before a petition can be submitted for you.

Apply for OPT a few months before you graduate.
Make sure you file for AOS before your OPT expires.
No other visa concerns.
thanks, nursemargo for your input. i'm trying to make a timeline of activities so i'll just have to piece the information as they come....it's a long way for me, anyway, and changes to procedures could happen anytime.
If you are student in the US, and you are able to get an OPT, meaning that you haven't used that in another career over here, you will be able to begin work right away after you graduate. That will give you time to get your immigration documents and other things completed. There is absolutely nothing to worry about, and no timeline is needed.
