Weight gain?

Published

This may seem like a dumb/trivial question, but how many of you gained or lost weight from the stress or busyness of nursing school? I worked my butt off to lose 55 pounds a few years ago, and I'm curious as to whether or not I'll have to be vigilant about it. Plus, if I gain too much, my school scrubs won't fit! ;-)

It pains me to say I gained back all of the 40 lbs I lost prior to starting nursing school. I was doing good for a while but I got overloaded and my routine fell apart. I have one semester left and I am anxious to get back to my old life!!! :)

I am only in my 3rd week and I can totally see how one could gain a lot of weight. All I do is sit and read and go to school, I've never sat still so much in my life (not that I was very active before). I sat and read 6 hours yesterday and 8 hours another day. Thats not counting the couple hours here and there. I really need to figure out an exercise program that will work for me. I sooo wish there was a zumba class I could hit before or after school...

I went on Pinterest and found a bunch of quick 10-20 minute workouts. I do one or two a day and its a a great way to take a break from all the studying and reading.

I find that I am able to balance some of the books onto the treadmill or eliptical. All that sitting makes my back and shoulders just knot up, so I try to read while I'm moving something! I am trying to lose weight and don't want to have to buy new scrubs too!

im still going to the gym very early in the morningss. I really do not want to gain so much weight back!

I bought a couple of online textbooks in addition to my hard copy ones so I can read on my iPod while I work out on the stationary bike. I also pack my lunch, snacks, and water so I'm not eating out of vending machines.

I definitely gained weight since I started the nursing program! It's my third year and I gained about 10-15 pounds. I just cant seem to find the time to exercise anymore since we do a lot of studying and I eat when I'm stressed out! It never used to comfort me before but now I just feel more energized to study when I eat. But I am really embarrassed by it now because I used to be so skinny, so I signed up for an aerobics class at school and try to do the p90x with my boyfriend and family. It keeps me motivated when I do it with them. Maybe you can try to do it with your family or friends at home so you wont have to spend more time going out and exercise, that really helped me. I am seeing the results slowly but surely :)

I'm in level 3 of 4 levels and I haven't gained anything. This semester is the hardest by far so we'll see what happens once i'm done. Where I live we have a 24 hour gym that i go to. I am NOT the type of person who can function with 3 hours of sleep. But I'm slowing realizing that my workouts are getting later because of the amount of time each day i spend studying, working, or at the school. I wouldn't stress it too much. Try to find a schedule that works for you and try your best not to talk yourself out of it. Thats a constant battle with me!

I find this will probably make me LOSE weight. I'm not eating as much as I did at home, and I'm actually much more active as I have to walk everywhere. That, and I'm one of those types who's hypersensitive about body image.

It has been a month since I started the program and have not gained (or lost) any weight thus far.

I eat home cooked meals, nothing from vending machines, and as of right now I am a little too busy for a workout routine. I do get to school early and park far away from my building so i have to walk and will start taking the stairs as well (5th floor) and hopefully will be able to at least keep the weight off. Hoping to loss weight would be too much for me to ask for without going to the gym.

Just find what works for you :)

I have managed to keep off the 20lbs. I lost +/- 5 lbs. I always have to tell myself that the extra 5lbs. is okay. I do try to do 'fitness stuffs' for fun with friends when we can: walk along the lakeshore, frisbee, football, swim, run 5K for charity. I try to bring good snacks to school because there is a Qdoba directly below us and it used to suck me in multiple times a week. When I have to stop at the coffee shop before class, I opt for straight house/Columbian coffee versus some sugared out latte/frappuccino beverage. I listen to what I'm writing and I feel like some motivational article in a magazine, but these little things really all can be done and after a while, they are better than the old, lazy, fatty ways... and I save money :)
