Specializes in I would like to work in OB.

I have been a CNA for almost 15 years and I have taken almost but two of my RN pre-req's. I have two kids now but I really want to make a better life for us. I thought that if I did my LPN then I could just go back but this is the third time I didn't pass a class by three points. I don't know if this is for me anymore but I love the medical field. Then I just don't know if I want to do something else. Should I just give up? or should I keep trying? I just am so tired of falling short and not making it.....

Are you allowed to retake the class you had failed?

Specializes in I would like to work in OB.

yes I can retake it

If you give up now.. what would be your other choices?

What class do you keep failing? I have a feeling that  you failed anatomy and physiology. Whatever it is.. get some tutoring.  We all need help to get us through.

it was anatomy and physiology. I really don't know what else to take.

There is  no other class to take, you have to pass it.  It is a prerequisite. Speak with your academic counselor . Get a tutor. You Tube could help

Anatomy and physiology is mostly rote memorization. It was many moons ago.. but I crammed enough in my head to pass.  I used index cards.

Good luck. you can do this.

My daughter took pieces of post-its and covered up the names of the parts on the illustrations in her books and practiced identifying them and flipping the post-it to check her answer.  She left all those little snippets of different color post-its in her books.  She also swore by using flash cards for anything and everything.  They went with her everywhere. Take a semester off and study it on your own with a tutor, etc.  Then retake.  One more semester isn't going to kill you as long as your other sciences don't expire in the meantime.  Khan Academy on the internet has everything.  There are other free websites that have study materials too.  Use any provided links with your texts.  Questions are more likely to come from those sources.  Go see your instructor during office hours regularly.  Start the first visit by asking for advice on how to proceed.  Don't be embarrassed.  Tell them about your history of retaking these classes.  They want you to succeed.  An acquaintance needed college algebra to get his degree.  It took him five tries but he finally passed the class and got his degree.  You can do the same with anatomy and physiology.  Good luck.

I highly suggest visible body for A&P if you can afford it. They have full virtual bodies that you can go through with explanations on how different systems work

You got this!

There is always a way.

Many members on allnurses.com have fought to become a nurse. All from different backgrounds and different age groups. It has taken many years to achieve but THEY DID IT.

They all had one dream: To become a NURSE.

Take each failure as an opportunity to learn from your mistakes.

NEVER, never give up! Be an example for your kids - show them if you want something bad enough you can achieve it. That's the best gift you can give your kids.

TIP #1 BELIEVE IN YOURSELF.

TIP #2 Don't be afraid to ask for help here (allnurses.com) and at school (tutoring).

Thank you Thank you I am happy that all of you encourage me to keep going and I will. My goal has to have my kids see me graduate and I will accomplish that goal.

Don’t give up. Take the class again. Try rate my professor.com for professor selection rates. U have your prerequisite so if you don’t succeed you transfer to another school. I was a PCT(patient  care tech) for 5years in a hospital setting and became an lpn while there but phased out lpn’s. I was an LPN for 8 years and just finished my RN. During this career process I had two kids-8yo and 3yo now. I have two senior citizen parents with one being disabled after a stroke. I moved to another state and purchased a home. Don’t give up if it’s what you want to do. I have always wanted to be a nurse and often times questioned myself. It’s tough especially as an adult student. If you can test out for the lpn( some schools do this). If u have supper and it is your passion(you can’t see yourself doing anything else) then keep going!

I forgot to mention tutoring, Youtube videos, khan academy and utilizing lab room for skills.
