Waiting for the phone to ring!!

Well, here I am - sitting at the computer, cordless phone sitting near, waiting for that phone call. My contract is up next month at a hospital where the pt/RN ratio is 12:1 on a typical day and I've had enough. I put my application in at a hospital that was totally APPALLED when I told them that, and assured me that there ratio is 5-7. I do know this to be true as I know a few people who work there. It is a bit of a pay cut (75 cents/hr), but I feel like this will be the change I've been needing. I talked to someone earlier this morning from a rehab unit, and am expecting a callback from Med/Surg today. Wish me luck - I want this sooo bad!! :nurse:

I too am waiting for the phone to ring to get a day job. I work tonight and need to get to some sleep but I just want the phone to ring and tell me that this torturous time of working nights is finally over.

May our phones ring soon and with good news!

it's amazing that with a nursing shortage, we get so crazy! Just did the check the phone bit to see if it's working. Just moved 700 miles for a new position, feeeeeeling your pain here.

Strangest thing I'd found is that with a union (North east states), we had the worst staffing ratio's

(12-14 to 1RN) and my new hospital on the FLOORS promises 5-7 med surg. nights. less on days.

ya never know. GOOD LUCK and let that phone ring... the .75 cents will mean nothing to you with better staffing and job satisfaction.

wish you the best let us know.

Good luck! I hope you receive the call-back you've been seeking.

you'll be in my prayers that it works out. All of you wanting off nights too. yecch! I can do an occasional night now but on my terms and when agreed to by me....if I know it is occasional I can do it to fill in and help out...

wishing you the best!

I am in the same boat...But today I got an update. I am considered a "top candidate" and they were calling to verify information so that they could do the background check and the reference calls. I am sooooo nervous. This will be my first job in nursing (just graduated from CNA school last month). It seems to take forever for them to make up their minds as to what they want to do..........GOOD LUCK!!!!!!

There is a place out there for each of us, we simply need to find where God opened the door at!!!!

good luck to all of you, i know how it is.

Did they tell you if they were or had included administration, secretarial, dietary, custodial, lab and x-ray...in the 12:1 ratio's? I'm thinking from time to time if nursing isn't paying attention they get included in the ratios! :troll:
