VA Hiring Process

From the previous posts I've read the VA hiring process is pretty long and drawn out. I've applied to two different VA sites. The VA an hour away from my home I can always get in contact with a nurse recruiter and my application status for two posting says "referred to selecting official." The VA closest to my home, I can't get through to the recruiter, she emailed me back once and the status of all the apps just says "application received." I do know a nurse practitioner that works at this VA site and she tried to give my resume to the recruiter, but I had to apply online.

For those of you that are familiar with the hiring process, any idea what the next step is. In all there are around 20 RN vacancies. The two systems have two completely different online application submissions, how will I know if I've completed the application process correctly, its a little confusing :(

I've been applying since I've graduated and earlier this year I found out that I was applying the wrong way so those positions don't count. These positions closed in September.

Thanks in advance ?

it seems like your process done in the same month. I applied 1/27, interviewed 2/27, Vetpro started 3/24. I was told courtesy Physical/background appointment to be followed after Vetpro. Vetpro verified 4/17. And the waiting process begins. My present supervisors are very supportive so i am not worried about my pending job offer in LA. I'm just too anxious about reading all those threads about the waiting period. Goodluck to you.

ORTech2RN, I don't see why you couldn't call the Recruiter and explain that you are making family plans in June. Ask for potential start dates. I was given three which were two weeks after each other. We're almost to May now and they know people have to make plans and give notice.

Carlostres, I wish I could help you but I have learned from these threads that every VA operates differently. My physical was after everything was submitted but before offer. God luck.

I've just received an offer from the Gainesville residency program. I have a couple of questions about it and how to proceed. Is there any way that I can get in touch with you or your friend? Thanks.

I don't know what floor I'll be on. My friend in Gainesville said that she's on a tele floor most of the time, but she also spends a lot of time floating to other floors as well. I think she's been able to spend about 2 weeks on each floor just to get a feel for the kind of care required for each type of patient. She compared it to being back in school and doing clinicals for med/surg lol.

If at all possible I would like to talk with you or your friend as I have just received an offer over the phone for the Gainesville residency program. I have several questions and I hope you all can help.

Since tentative offer was made on 3/27, not heard a peep. well, other than the nurse recruiter saying it should be soon, but that was early last week. Really getting kinda doubtful and thinking things have fallen through.

"Soon" was said a week ago? Be patient.

Pfchang, I need some help on dimensions of nursing!

Hope this helps LubbockNP :-)

I have no idea what to suggest. I don't have my MSN and the whole boarding process was a mystery to me. I was boarded lower than I thought I should have been and two people I confided in agreed. If it is a community type of nursing you need to show evidence of, have you volunteered anywhere? Been involved in any type of public health program, maybe in school? Wish I could help more.

I am reluctantly getting up at 5 am to volunteer on Saturday to add to my experiences for my next review. Good luck.

Thank you, ORSuite. I will use this format as I prepare for my proficiency review.

Has anyone dealt with an unpleasant HR personnel? It's the most frustrating hiring process I've been going through since January; my HR contact person has been nothing but inconsistent and unpleasant. Apparently, I was finally boarded 2 months after my packet was submitted to the board. I was given a final offer over the phone, I accepted and we agreed on a start date, I was told I'll have my offer in writing the next day (via email and regular mail would be sent), it's now almost a week later and once again the HR personnel has not followed through on her promise. I'm wondering if it would be appropriate to contact someone else in HR to get my offer in writing because I'm in a time crunch and expected to relocate to start working in less than 6 weeks. Without a written offer letter I cannot secure housing, and quite frankly I don't believe anything the HR personnel tells me unless it's in writing, so until I see the letter I don't believe I have the job. Any suggestions anyone?

My entire NP career has been at a state prison hospital type place. Only inmates have been my patients. Before this I worked as a staff RN in SICU. I am so afraid they are going to board me less than nurse III and pay me way less than I make now. I will work off that template today. This is so frustrating, to say the least.
