USPHS

Hi,

Are there any USPHS commissioned officers who can share their experiences working in IHS facilities?

What is it like living in rural areas? Please share your stories with me because I am interested in joining USPHS upon graduation (finishing up my BSN and will be done in May).

Thank you :)

I just got the same call. I'm kinda upset too. I have already

resigned from my job. The wording states that

officers on active duty immediately become

regular corps. This is get news for that group of reserve corps officers!

It great news for the corps. It should also be great news for us!

I have signed contract! Cut me new orders and give me a "regular" corps commision.

Simple enough .. Right... Well maybe with an Executive Order or something.

Has the Surgeon General issued a statement.

Viper have you moved already? Are you somewhere

Between being employed and not being employed?

Im ok, just had to take back my resignation letter, kinda holding off signing my new lease for our new house we are supposed to move to in july (which makes me nervious) because I haven't set up a date for the government to move me yet, my obc orders were cx'd for next week and I had to put my uniform order on hold...and I'm still so ready to start my job...

Have you heard any updates

Viper have you received anything in writing?

Anyone who has gone to OBC, can you tell me what uniforms are worn besides the khakis? Any BOP nurses who went to Glynco, can you tell me what is worn there and what the physical test is like? Thanks in advance!

Hey...I just came in again with the canceling of the orders. I am not sure I am understanding correctly. I did hear about the new health care bill, etc etc but I really didnt think it was going to affect any officers like that. Plus, we have a new officer who is starting tomorrow, so whats up with that??? Im confused.

@Ultimo, sorry I didnt repsond earlier. At OBC, the first 3 days you wear regular black and white. (black bottoms, white shirts) in an attempt for uniformity. After that, all you wear is the khakis in OBC. There some nurses who were assigned to be BOP, and I saw them ordering the dark blue one piece coveralls, because thats what they wear daily at work. They also spoke of the training at BOP. You can pm and I can put you in touch with one of them via email if you have questions about it.

I PM'd you...and thanks for your reply!

I'm not sure, but what I've been told by my cam is that all of the orders for new call to dutys have been cx due to us being called to the active reserve, not the regular reserve...I'm mad because I checked my email and my I saw my travel iternerary on it...but I don't think they fixed the problem yet, so its like teasing me about my future...

I know the army in 04' did the same for officers... it was a seamless transition for most - it just entailed those in administrative positions to do a bit of juggling to redo paperwork, didn't affect me as an end user at all...

Hi everyone,

I have a question about the rank structure in the USPHS. I'm considering joining after my time in the Navy. I'm a Lieutenant in the Nurse Corps currently. Will I maintain my O-3 ranking when I join the USPHS? I will have 5 years of nursing experience plus 2 years enlisted Navy experience under my belt when I join.

Also, are there any BOP jobs or DIHS jobs in the Houston area for nurses?

Today Heard that those of us that were scheduled for active reserve

after the 23d will be appointed to the Ready Reserve. The paperwork

will have to go through the White House and other proper channels

Thats interesting...i didn't hear that yet, but I got my internary in my email today, still don't have orders...but I asked the OBC/training liason about am I still going to OBC and if my orders come in I guess I will still go to OBC this weekend...but I already canceled my resignation....
