Using ATI to prep for NCLEX-PN

Published

I am currently using ATI to prepare for my nclex, but I am not a fan of the test or the process to get a green light. Does anyone have any recommendations about the material make more interesting?

We used ATI in school, I was not a fan. I took the Kaplan course & feel it was the best NCLEX prep I could have used. It looks exactly like NCLEX (the trainer tests & q bank) so when you sit down to take the test it feels familiar. Plus it teaches you the "tricks" you need to know to pass the test. Just my opinion though, but thought I'd share as I just took & passed the nclex 6/12.

CONGRATS?, thank you Sooo muck for your input. They gave us both things but they are making it seem like we have to get the green light from ATI for them to sign off for us to take the boards. Which I think is crazy cause all of ATI does not match the material that we got from them. All I know is I am ready to sit and take my boards I have faith that I will pass on the 1st try. Once again congrats.

Some people are using Saunders 4th or 5th edition, lacharity PDA, and Kaplan Strategies.

Studying, did your school make that an requirement?

Hi, some schools require you to pass with X % on ATI, my school had us just take a readiness test so we could see where we were, they wanted it to be at 90% or higher, I was 93%. Kaplans questions are VERY much like the NCLEX, the NCLEX questions are critical thinking and using the strategies that Kaplan teaches is the best way to answer them. Out of the 75 questions I had there were maybe 10 that I 100% knew, the rest were meds I'd never heard of, diseases I'd never heard of, LOTS of delegation. I only had 8 SATA but most of my class had a TON, besides my 8 the rest of my class had 34-50 out of 75 that were SATA. Most of us passed in 75 there are as of now only 3 that I know of who went over, one was 108, one was 150 and the other was all 265. But all of us have passed. The reason I stress Kaplan is that one of our instructors is a Kaplan instructor so she taught us the Kaplan strategies for 2 years, so my thinking has always been-physical before psychosocial, Position, O2, IV, ABCD, I the Nurse assess, if 2 questions are similar both are wrong, if 2 are opposite one is right, if 3 questions are all assess -or all the same of anything- the one that is different is the answer...so on and so forth and THAT is how I answered the questions. I used the decision tree and the rule out techniques and I was done in 75 questions in 1 hour 15 minutes. Saunders 5th edition book has simpler rationals and remediation than kaplan and is a good resource. Good luck, study, take your time, breath deep and you will pass!!!

Thank you Chaisaci, I also got 93% with the ATI assessment. My game plan at this point since I have to do it is focus and finish ATI, then once I get the green light focus on Kaplan. We did have a two class with Kaplan as well which was beneficial the main thing I remember is if I can only do one thing and leave what would it be. Not gonna lie I was not focused during the decision tree but I am going to make an appt to sit with the teacher that does the Kaplan and go over what I didn't pay attention to before. Thanks for your advice, and congrats on your licensure.
