Upset about pay in this area...

I got offered a job for 17 and some change. This seems really low to me. I was making 32 and some change base pay at my last job. Am I just at the wrong hospital? Anyone from San Antonio with advice on where to work that will pay more than 17 base?

Thanks

Where was your last job at? (geographically speaking)

My last job was in north carolina, where my rent was cheaper, daycare was cheaper and cost of living was cheaper.

Hi there, sorry to read this. Did you negotiate your salary or just accepted the pay offered. Also, can you meanwhile look elsewhere into other and better options?

That's why I am leaving San Antonio. Pay sucks, and it really doesn't matter where you go. Do you have experience? That is what I started at as a new graduate nurse. You can find better with a little experience, maybe try night shift??

My understanding in the Galveston-Houston area starting pay for a new nurse is around 25.00 an hour.

Does this seem like the average amount offered to fairly new nurses? I only have 8 months of experience. I just wanted to make sure Im not at the lowest paying hospital in the area.

I don't know about the San Antonio area, but I'm in DFW and our interns (new grads) start around $19/hr.

I used to live in NC (with 9 years of experience) and made 25/hr for day shift when I left 2 years ago! Where in NC did you live? I'd like to move back if the pay has gone up that much! The cost of living was definitely cheaper in NC than here.
