2014 UF's Generic BSN program

Hi everyone! New to this thread! I applied to the generic program for this Fall as well! Hoping to get the opportunity to attend!

Just really anxious because I'm a transfer student and I heard they only accept about 3-5 transfers and the rest are already UF students :)

Cvtsarah: I had volunteer experience in the summer of 2011 in a hospital in Miami. I shadowed nurses and assisted them with small tasks.

I didn't submit any letters of recommendation though.

Do you guys know if they actually read and consider the essays? Lol

The essay is part of the requirement, and they actually do read it. The school said if I was a freshman, I would had to submit letters of rec. Just make sure you apply to other schools, I am a transfer student as well, and do not want to put all my eggs in one basket. The transfer rate is very low than in other schools, for example, UCF tends to take more transfer students. I am not sure about FSU and USF transfer ratio.

Hopefully, today I will receive the decision letter... It is driving me crazy, this long wait... I have been stalking my mailbox for weeks, a little more and I should sleep next to it. Good luck to you!

I do not have a medical working experience, I volunteered in the hospital and rehabilitation center. I did not submit letters of rec, I am confused now, is that part of the requirement. The school advised me it was only for freshman applicants.

I went to a Q&A session at the community college (Santa Fe) here in Gainesville last summer; Ken Foote gave a short spiel on UF's program. He said letters of recommendation are not required, but the admissions board will read them if submitted.

I have 2 letters from M.D.'s that I work with, and 1 from the department chair of physiology at UF's College of Medicine (PhD). I've worked in biomedical research for 7 years, the past 4 of which I've managed the animal research surgery facility here at UF; doing everything from intubation, IV catheters, and running anesthesia for lung transplants and trauma labs, to performing difficult vascular access surgery, vessel ligations, and skin closure in pediatric swine. I'll also be published in a medical journal as a full author with the doctor who I've done surgeries for.

My cumulative GPA is a little low at 3.7 (I had one bad semester 10 years ago at Texas A&M), but have essentially gotten straight A's since going back to school in 2010. Pre-req GPA is a 3.9x. I know they really look hard at GPA, so I'm hoping my experience can override that bad semester.

Hey guys :) I applied to UF's Generic BSN 2014 program too, and I'm a student here at UF. I agree with all you guys! The wait is a little intimidating, but hopefully we will all get in! Stay positive!

I was in that same Q&A session, I did not know about the admissions board reading them. He forgot to specify that part to me. Well I guess I screwed up that one, lol.. Oh well, everything happens for a reason and if I meant to be there than great, and if not, I will accept another school. No matter where one goes, one will still graduate as registered nurse.
