I was just wondering if anyone out there has any tricks for memorizing lab values. I am studying for the NCLEX and having a hard time making these numbers stick!!! Thanks in advance for your help:wink2:

Im not sure if there are any tricks for lab values. what i did was i wrote them down over and over and over again, seriously like 20 times a day, after i rewrote i would try to write them without looking, the ones i didnt remember i would rewrite. it only took me about 2 days to memorize them. now they are stuck in my head. when i got to the testing center i wrote them down on the paper they give you just to make sure i didnt forget them in the stress. good luck! ;)

I will give that a whirl... thanks a lot!!!:yeah:

i wrote it down too but i memorized them according to how commonly used they are.

I used notecards to memorize them... i would write down for example potassium in one side and in the other side i would write the lab value...that worked out well for me because i would have my husband quiz me with the notecards...good luck

hey i am learning labs right now too! I did the flash card thing as well but you have to consistent as well try to do them everyday also to stick it will help. Like someone mention testing yourself and let someone test you. You can do it! Make sure you use one source to get lab values from that helps cause if you use more than two review materials there lab ranges might be different.

i took my nclex on thursday..

the way i studied for labs was to repeatedly re-write it down. kaplan gives a list of lab values that should be memorized. i used that. also, i've been told that if nclex asks a lab question.. it would probably be way off the normal values. so.. when you study these values, just know the general range. (i know we can't talk about questions given on the nclex.. but this info was told to me prior to me taking my exam and it helped me.. i feel that i should share it as well)

i hope this helps. good luck!
