I am having a VERY hard time taking bp
i am sure in a few years i will look back and think "I can do this in my sleep" but right now it is very difficult for me to get the hang of
i have a great steth but can't hear a darn thing ..i can never hear the heart beating at the brachial site
any pointers or helpful hints? or just keep practicing :)

Do you have the ear plugs in the right way around?
ah yes i have discovered that problem..but that is not mine . :chuckle
perhaps i am somehow deficient

I don't really hear the pulse well either, I put my steth where I felt the pulse and I have no problems hearing where the beats start and stop while the cuff is deflating. I was so intimidated the first time I had to do it without a dynamap.

Did you turn the diaphragm around so you can hear it? It has two positions, one for the bell and the the diaphragm. Tap on it and you'll know which side is which. Good luck!

If you can't hear the beat at the brachial site...I would get my ears checked (hearing)........ no joke.
A few people I knew had a problem with low pitched sounds.

i figured out that the reason i could not hear anything was because i was trying to hear the pulse before i pumped the cuff at all

LOL! Don't feel bad I did that my 1rst time too...I was like " I don't hear anything..hello? what's wrong with this thing"....LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!
