thrown off track....

Published

It's been a while since I last posted or even visited this website....

This past July I was all set and registered for my prereqs this fall..and really excited about it. Then, I found out I was pregnant with my first child....in my excitement I withdrew from my classes because I was so unsure how I'd feel having never done this before. Now, I feel sad and nervous that I'll never get back on track to my nursing career. Any advice? Thanks.

dont' worry about it you're still very very young! i have 3 children, married an am 32 yrs old and just now started back to school and have a long life ahead of myself. how far along are you pregnant? you can still get some of your prerequisites out of the way while you are pregnant...its just a thought. and when the baby is born, you can go back and finish up, i know there is day care available..but like at my school there is a long waiting list, so if you're interested you need to check into the day care now. good luck! remember you're really young still..take care and keep us posted!!

I do not understand why you withdrew from your courses... Being pregnant is not an excuse to quit unless you or the baby is sick in some way.

I know a few pregnant pre-nursing students that attended class everyday. One who was within days of delivering her 4th kid showed up to our final in labor (not active). I also know a few that had babies during nursing school. Being pregnant or having kids should not hinder your education these days.

If you cannot take classes offline, look at taking some of your pre-reqs online. Be sure to talk to an Academic Counselor to make sure courses from online schools (or schools that offer online courses) will transfer and be used for admissions into the nursing program you are interested in attending. Good luck.

Starting back to school is a scary thing in itself when you've been out for awhile. I can see why you dropped your classes, all of the unkown...

I went back to school in the fall of 02,(at 28,like you) became pregnant, continued through the spring of 03, delivered 4 days after finals(thankfully) and it was all okay. But then I went back in the fall of 03 became pregnant again, I finished the semester and gave birth in Dec.04(had a horrible birth and recovery) and then didn't go back until the summer of 05, starting with an online class. I then started taking classes steadily and have finally applied to Nursing School(at 32 and two babies later). Enjoy every moment of your pregnancy and your babies because it goes fast, school isn't going anywhere. It'll still be there when you're ready to go, just don't ever give up or feel that it's too late!!

And congrats on your first baby!!:wink2:

I found out I was pregnant between Semesters in the Winter of 2004. I went to school that following spring and took two online courses the following fall (when my daughter was born).

I wasn't planning on having a baby until I finished school, but it happened!! If nursing is truly your passion, you will get right back on it...but only when YOU are ready!! Don't be afraid!! If it's truly for you, you'll do it!

Congratulations to you on your first baby!! Enjoy it!!

When I first found out I was pregnant I was really sick....not to mention scared. I had no idea how long I was going to be feeling that way which is why I withdrew. Unfortunately, the only prereq i have left (aside from a&p) is speech which i wish could be taken online (lol)....thanks for the advice...

Oddly, I know someone who is taking Speech on-line. I think her class required that she have conferencing technology in order to complete the course. In any case, I do not blame you. I personally would not want to take Speech on-line with or without the needed devices.

To answer your original question, I think you will be fine and not deter too far from your goals. From your ID it sounds like you have many people in your family that will continue to inspire you to be a Registered Nurse. Good luck. :wink2:

Yes, kids can be scary! Especially if they are insane like mine. :)

Don't worry about it. If you want to go back, you will find the time. Personally, I would have never been able to go to schood while pregnant and working (I know some can, but I know my own limitations!) I would get so tired that I could literally fall asleep in the blink of an eye at work.

I am an accountant and wanted to go back to get an accelerated BSN years ago. I'm now finishing up pre-reqs. and have applied for the accelerated program next Fall. I'm 36 years old and have a 5 year old and a 2 year old. I finally feel like I am at that place in my life where I can balance my full-time job, part time studies and family life and I've been doing great. You'll know when you're ready. Having a baby is a major life event and so is your schooling. Take the time you need to truly enjoy both!
