How do you get any hands on taking the nursing course online...It just dont make sense. I wouldnt want to hire a nurse, who took an online course? Theres no challange. What do you all think??

Most online "nursing courses" require clinicals just like other conventional programs.

I think you should talk to a counselor if there is a particular program of interest. Like the above poster, I do not know of any online nursing programs that do not require offline hands-on clinicals. Especially since most states require a set number of hours for a program to be accredited. I am sure there are exceptions (there always are) but I do not know of any personally.

Specializes in Ante-Intra-Postpartum, Post Gyne.

All the on-line programs I have heard of are only RN to BSN. I heard of one in NY that is on line. I know that there is an on-line midwifery program through Frontier Nursing but you still have to fly out there a few times for training and then clinical where you live. It can't be all on-line, nursing is to hands on, you can't just do simulators on -line.

I have never heard of nursing classes online, but I did take many prerecs online. They were great for me, but don't kid yourself, it takes discipline to do well in online classes and they are difficult for many people. I had english, psych, nutrition and bio online. of course i had bio lab in class. They cover the same material and do not have the advantage of listening to a lecture, but it saved me much childcare time and i put the time in when it was good for me and worked a little ahead. Does your school offer nursing theory online and other nursing classes? I am in the 1st semester of my ADN and I feel this material should have a teacher/nurse in person to learn well. It is intense and constantly go go go but I am loving it:wink2:

:yeahthat: The 'online = easy' belief is common, but not really accurate. Most online programs do have built-in mechanisms for the students to obtain lab or clinical experience.
