  1. Ok so heres my situation: I really really really want to be a nurse. However I have a 2 yr old and I must work while I go to school to make ends meet. I dont think there is any way I can take the 2 yr full time RN program. So I looked into the 4 yr part time program, but that is so far away and I feel like I'll be so old when I graduate. So Im thinking of looking into the 1 yr LPN program, then work maybe a yr or 2 then take the 1.5 yr Lpn to RN program and be an RN...Does that make sense??? Everyone I talk to says "NO NO NO just go right for the RN, Lpns dont make any money and You will work no where but a nursing home" but its not that easy!!! Any advice will be helpful thanks!!
  2. I am in the exact same boat you are. I cant decide if I want to go for the RN or LPN!!! If I do the LPN I will DEF go back and advance to RN in a few years. I need to work while I go to school and I dont think the RN program will be practical for me right now Good Luck to you!
  3. How do you get any hands on taking the nursing course online...It just dont make sense. I wouldnt want to hire a nurse, who took an online course? Theres no challange. What do you all think??
  4. I guess I just got lucky...I live in pittsburgh PA and theres a few schools paying for tuition if you work in one of thier hospitals for 2 yrs (Which is like every hospital here). Good luck
  5. OMG where are you guys going to school?? Your gonna shell out 25 grand for like $12-$16/hr?? Thats almost 10 thousand dollars more than Im paying for the RN program...I would never pay that for an LPN program....
  6. What kind of work do you do? you may not be down with this and I know serving tables isint a wonderful job, but you can work part time like 5-10p a few nights a week and still probably make as much as you do.
  7. Hi, I am starting an RN program in Feb. And I really really want to be a labor and delivery nurse. Does anyone know of anything I can do in the mean time to better my chances of getting hired as one out of school.
  8. Yes, that seems very high, and 2 1/2 years seems like a VERY long time...theyre usually 12 months.
  9. IS that your biggest concern?? How will you be treated?? Why do you care?
  10. Hey, I am 21 years old and well I was so sure that I wanted to do the 2 yr RN program...Then I started thinkin about the LPN program...I know a school when I can complete the course in 1 yr and be an LPN. I thought I could do that and work as one for a few years and then take the 18 month LPN to RN program. Im thinkin I should do this to get me some kind of experience before I just jump into the 2 yr RN program. Does this make sense and is it a good idea or should I just stick with going for the RN program??
  11. Oh yeah I can definitly relate to that...I think I stayed up all night for the first weeks with my daughter, sitting right by her bed and watching her..She kept making all these lil noises in her sleep I seriously considered taking her to the ER lol but I was a young mom when I had her so I called my mom and told her and all she said was "GO BACK TO SLEEP!!!" lol thanks mom
  12. Hey there everyone.. Come Februrary I will be going to school mon-fri 8-4. Im a little worried about working and going to school at the same time. Without a doubt I need to work and make some kind of income to make ends meet. Not to mention I have a one and a half year old. Im married and have a wonderful supporting family, but even with his income it wont be enough....Has anyone been in my position and what did you do???
  13. Hey there..Im going in October to take my pre-entrance exam. I looked into a few nursing schools and each one of them gives a different entrance exam. Why is that?? And whats the difference? Im taking an exam called the AIT exam? Anyone take it or even heard of it? And is the entrance exam as scary as people make it out to be..Im a lil nervous!!!
  14. Hey there..Yes I am actually HOPING to start shadyside school of nursing in February. I talked to someone about that tuition forgiveness program, the only catch with that is you have to get a c or higher in all your classes. If you dont you will have to pay for the schooling. So I suggest work REALLY HARD. Thats what I plan to do! And it beats paying thousands of dollars. Maybe you can help me with this one. My only concern with going to shadyside is that you graduate with a diploma. Is that ok? Will I get a good job with a diploma?
