I am returning to school in January to work toward my BSN.
I spoke to the Admininstrator about working around my schedule, and she agreed, that since I have been there a while, that they would work with me. I said I could work Fridays and Saturdays (my regular 12 hour shifts) and do 7p-11p on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. This would've given me 36 hours a week. This conversation was had over 2 weeks ago.
Hubby and I could deal with that many hours. Wouldn't kill us too much.
Last night, I took over for the RN who is doing the scheduling since the DON and ADON are quitting...she informed me that a new night shift nurse has been hired.
I asked her if the new nurse had been hired to take over my hours that I couldn't be there, she said, "No. She wants full time hours."
So I asked how many days I had, and she said that I had 3.
I asked if that was 3 days a week (which would have been ok), and she said, "No. That's 3 days a pay period."
WHAT THE HECK????????
I have been cut from 86 hours a pay period down to 36.....
I am going to talk to the Administrator on Monday, but I am so hurt and so angry that this has been done. I have worked int hat same company for 2 years, from a CNA to LPN.
Guess that goes to show huh?
Job market, here I come!:stone

So sorry this has happened to you, Julie. Please pardon my cynicism, but that's LTC for you.....they work you to death, then s**** you seven ways from sundown at the first good opportunity.
But you know what they say.......whenever a door closes, a window opens. This is more than likely a blessing in disguise; you probably needed to move on anyway, and now you have a good reason to do so.
Best wishes and good luck to you in finding another position, as well as in your continuing studies.:kiss

Well I hope for you that maybe your boss just made an honest mistake and corrects herself pronto BUT....
If you are getting screwed in a way it's a blessing that it's happening to you now instead of during the school year which could really mess with your studies/ grades.
I know you will find a situation with more supportive employers if this doesn't work out... yet it must feel really bad to put your blood sweat and tears into this place and be scammed like that!
Oh well, you'll get the last laugh when you graduate...

Good luck. When were they planning on telling you?

Are you full time or prn status? If you are full time, aren't you guaranteed at least 36 hours a week? Either way, I am surprised they would pass up the opportunity to have someone who wants to work every Friday and Saturday!
Good luck, I know it must be frustrating.

I have no idea when they were planning on telling me....when the next schedule came out maybe?
I have been full time for over 2 years. An I have no idea if I am supposed to be "guaranteed" anything. Maybe I'll find out more on Monday (payday) but I do know I am calling off Monday night, cause I am going to be too busy looking for another job to get enough rest to go in that night!

I am sorry you are going through this, Julie, especially after giving your all to this institution. Try to look upon this as God broadening your horizons--He's getting you out of there and He will undoubtedly open up a much better opportunity elsewhere. Like someone earlier stated, better to find out how they are now, rather than once you start your curriculum.

Sorry
That really STINKS!!! As I always say, things happen for a reason. You will get something and everything will work itself out although it seems life is crazy right now. Good luck!!

That really smells-I am guessing that you did not have that agreement with the administrator in writing? ...Maybe your scheduler was not aware and it is just a misunderstanding?I hope you can get the administrator on the phone first thing Monday am and straighten this out-sounds like this scheduler does not know what she is doing...you are full time-she can not just arbitrarily make you part time....I am sure she is abit stressed out and probably did not volunteer for the job but no way should she get away with screwing you...good luck-keep us posted...
Ahhh....no. No written agreement between admin. and I. It's a small place. Only a 100 beds or so....
And RN (schedule person) DID know about me talking to administrator, heck~ Admin. gave her a copy of my schedule!
Believe me, I will be on the phone to admin first thing Moday AM!
(But I am still going out job hunting!~ Already have 10 copies of resume printed out....hitting the streets tomorrow!:chair: )

Hey Julie,
I am a julee too. Anyway I have encountered scheduling probs at my LTC facility also.
I am an STNA and an ADN student, thus unlike other aides there I work 12 hour shifts to make up for my days off for school
Well recently we had low census, so everyone hours got cut, my scheduler never bothered to inform me that my 12 hr shifts would turn into 8. I just happened to see it on the schedule.
Then she started scheduling me five nights in a row, five nights a week.
I informed her that unless I worked 12 hr shifts not to schedule me more than 4 days a week. Eventually I went to the DON and it was taken care of .
Now, she gave the only other aide on 12 hr shifts back hers and I started months before she did.
the other poster was right, thats LTC for ya, I can't wait to become an rn and get the hell outa there!
Good luck!
