4th of July is her!? For trauma, it's nearly the worst holliday of the year! It's hot, there are explosives, alcohol, and usually boats or Atvs involved... Lets hear the stories!!!!

My 4 year old daughter was caught in a firework accident tonight. Thank God that it wound up being a quarter sized first degree burn. Unfortunately, she's in major need of a haircut. It's ironic that my brother was trying to be too safe. Accidents truly do happen, despite precautions.

I was on the other end...took my husband in after he dropped a glass blender carafe on the top of his foot. Ouch! 5 sutures for the muscle, 7 staples for the skin. So glad he didnt get the tendon.

I work at a basic ER and my I had two drunk patients under involuntary psychiatric holds, a 50-year old woman who still cries "i want my mama" for a miniscule kidney stone, a lady with DKA (pH=6.8, Bicarb=3.3, glucose=1,257), a child who blew a hole into her thigh with 6cm of tunneling, full of soot, smelled of BBQ flesh, and was bubbling out water like a witches brew. Those were just my patients.

does the 3rd count? i was in a free-standing urgent care with a gib.
six years ago, i spent the 4th getting my foot stitched up after a close encountered with an unidentified submerged object. that's the last time i went swimming (other than in a pool) barefoot!

i don't think i've ever seen a glucose that high or a bicarb that low! but the "bubbling out water like a witches brew" should have had a beverage alert attached. i'm wiping the water off my computer screen!

Boy, our 4th was completely benign in the Department, so much so that we were all commenting on it. One drunk, no fireworks injuries, no drownings, no traumas, no bad-picnic-food gastro, even... we were all waiting for the other shoe to drop. We thought "This can't possibly be right, a holiday weekend where no one has an emergency? What Bizarro World is this?"
And then I got out of the hospital, was on my way home from a barbecue, and had to stop and assist at a multiple MVC. Sigh... you knew it couldn't last!!
