I had to take it as part of the application process for one of the schools I applied to. Once I had my high school and college transcripts in the application file, they scheduled me to take the TEAS at the school on a specific date.
It has writing, reading, math, and science sections. All stuff you needed to know to graduate high school, but if it has been a few years, you'll want to brush up!
http://www.testprepreview.com has some practice nursing tests, this can give you an idea of which subject areas are rusty and need some work.
Good luck! I didn't think it was hard - I studied for three days and got a great score.

Two of the nursing schools that I want to apply to require the TEAS test. When do I take the test, before or after I apply the schools? If I understand correctly I can take the TEAS through one of the schools I am applying to. The school I am taking my pre-req's at does not require the TEAS & so my advisor knows nothing about it.
