TCN...Excelsior

Ok let me put it this way.......Why do Ineed to sign up with one of these publication companies to get my BSN through ISU? Can this be done on my own? OR do I really need them for some reason?

I see that I can buy most of my CLEP study guides from TCN on Ebay and I can go to a local testing facility to test out. So What is the real reason I need them? Do I need them to take some nursing tests? Can you not take the Nursing Concepts on your own? Iam confused. Can someone please clarify?

When I looked into this program a while back, they referred me to TCN to test out of 4 pre-nursing classes. They made it appear that was my only option aside from going to the college and actually enrolling and sitting in the classroom to take them. They said that they did not offer an ISU online component for the 4 pre-nursing classes.

For your pre/co rec's you can buy your own material and test out. For phase II TCN has partnered with ISU to provide the learning modules needed to test out. I have seen these four modules on ebay, but only once, and the bidding got up in the $100's. Another person posted in the ISU thread that if you live close to ISU they have the modules there and they can be copied.

Thank you very much for that! So I am going to do my pre reqs on my own. But as far as the nursing classes I COULD do them on my own if I am lucky enough to find the study material? Is that what you are saying? And then I can just straight enroll at ISU having all those done?

Why is Excelsior in the title? They have nothing to do with ISU. ISU does not have any "nursing concepts" exams. That is excelsior, not ISU. There is one med-surg, one peds, one maternal-child and one mental health.

You have to apply to and be accepted into ISU's nursing program. You can't just enroll. There is a big packet of information on their site. http://www.indstate.edu

The reason why I put Excelsior on this is because When I got the packet from TCN it tells me which classes I have to take or CLEP out of......and when it gives the name of class like Into to Sociology at the end it says I will take a CLEP exam for that, then there are ones like Lifespan Dev. Psychology and it says I will be taking the Excelsior College exam for that....so I am confused about that and don't know how they are involved in it?

OIC. Yes some of the pre-reqs are Excelsior tests. Excelsior is a testing service and provides tests just like CLEP and Dantes so schools who accept CLEP credit also may accept Excelsior credit. Other than that they aren't involved with ISU. :)

The 4 study guides you can get through TCN but they are like $500 each. People have found them on eBay but I hear it's hard to find them. You can technically do it without them and just get the textbooks but I've already taken one and MANY of the test questions are straight out of the practice test in the back of the TCN guide.

Excelsior tests you have to take at a Pearson Professional Center. CLEPs and Dantes you can take at community colleges.

I am not going to sign up with TCN, I am going to CLEP the ones that say CLEP on my list, and then the ones that say Excelsior I am going to Pearson and taking them there!
