but here's my take on Kaplan

Nursing Students NCLEX

Published

I am sooooo happy. I passed the nclex-rn. I seriously thought I failed because it seemed I didn't get many priority or infection control questions. So here's the thing, I payed $500.00 for the Kaplan complete plan and I seriously think it was a total waste of my money!!! I understand that this program works well for some people but it absolutely didn't prepare me for that test. Anyhow, thanks for everyone's support....you all are awesome.

If Kaplan didn't help you what was it? Congrats on passing thaT beast!! :yeah:Hope you can share waht really help you pass, thanks in advance!

Kaplan really stressed strategies to break down questions. They use something called the decesion tree. I found that I couldn't use their decesion tree at all..not even once. I think the only thing Kaplan helped me with was getting comfortable with answering questions on the computer. Now I'm not saying that Kaplan doesn't help a lot of people, it came highly recommended by the class that graduated before me. However, for me I strongly feel that nursing school prepared me for the NCLEX. Hope this clarifies things a little.

I, too, recently passes & feel Kaplan did not directly help. In a round about way it helped specifically the Q bank and tutorials online were helpful. Not once during the NCLEX did I stop & think about any strategies because too much depended on specifics of the question. I did Hurst - for me, it helped a bit.

Hi mimi 75 !

I share exactly your experience ! I spent 2000 Dollars on Review Materials and failed three times. It is simply nonsense to go through "systems" to learn how to "analyze or "trick" the exam. What helped me pass was www.nclex-tutorial.com . It is a live review of the complete curriculum of the NCLEX - RN by building complexes that combine all relevant subjects on a sophisticated level. You also get very good study materials and a 6 week or 3 month learning plan. The full progam was only 330 Dollars last year. Some courses have a 100 % pass rate. The thing is that Dr. K is a provider for continuing nusing and medical education. So his stuff is up to date. It is focussing on content review and and training of the question style. That makes you confident because you actually know things. I spent so much money on other programs that teach you how to guess right. None of the questions is "real" so it is like gambling if you pepare by questions only. I know exactly how you feel but DONT ! Do not give up on this. It woks just fine once you find the right approach. All the best and good luck ! Keep the faith and God bless you!

Good point. I did not even think about the decision tree during my test.

yap...very much agree!!Me too spend so much, trying and hoping that by taking kaplan,i would pass the boards but didn't.I actually used their technique when i test but unfortunately, there's just few that u could apply the technique and it didn't help me still.

I think, what's impt.is having the background knowledge with you coz' u'll never go wrong with this!!

wow! everyone has such a different experience regarding the test and kaplan.

Honestly, to me kaplan was the best, I did use their decision tree to answer my questions. I thought about each answer just as if I was taking a kaplan test.

I am not saying that I found the test easy at all, because I found it difficult.

I even posted on here that I was really bumbed out..... and someone suggested that I was deppressed about something else and not the test! LOL

that test meant a lot to me.

I feel that I took use of that kaplan course to the fullest, and that is why I passed using their program.

"People who do not pass with kaplan are those who do not study hard enough"

and I trully find it to be extremely true!

You are so right! Everyone does have a different take on Kaplan and the NCLEX but I really do feel that nursing school prepared me for the NCLEX and not Kaplan. Like I said earlier, a lot of my classmates swear buy it, I just had a different experience..that's all. The most important thing is that we passed regardless of who we credit:) Congratulations to you!!
