I start the program next month and I'm wondering when I should start studying for the oh so notorious NCLEX exam. I dont graduate till Dec 2015 so feel free to tell me to calm my tits if I'm trying to over-prepare myself.
Thanks y'all:)

You haven't even started the program yet. Now's not the time to think about NCLEX. I didn't even think about NCLEX until after I graduated. Your entire program will be preparation for NCLEX.

Seems like there's mixed feelings about this nclex preparation. Some ppl say they went along their nursing program studying nclex style books, and did fine on the nclex, and some PSAT they never even opened an nclex study book.
I guess it all depends on what kind of learner you are. If you need serious exposure to a topic before mastering, my guess is to study nclex style questions from the beginning of your program, if you catch on right away, then just pay attention to lectures and you'll do fine.
I start next month and I'm undecided on how to approach the whole nclex test prep.

Focus on learning the material you're covering in school right now. I'm entering my final semester, and thinking about that stuff now. A lot of the stuff in the study manuals wouldn't have made a lot of sense had I started studying them sooner. It would have been rote memorization, versus thinking it through to deduce my answers. There's also a lot of learning HOW to answer NCLEX-style questions, which you'll learn in your program. Take it one thing at a time.

I used the Saunders Book throughout my program. It was a huge help for exams, and I feel like it helped me get into the mindset for answering NCLEX style questions.

NCLEX shouldn't be on your mind yet. Focus on passing the classes and the clinical first. Don't underestimate the courses, they are tough. I just graduated (ADN) and I have to say, the ADN program was on a magnitude harder than my Bachelors in Accounting (from a university).

I have been using a couple NCLEX books since I started nursing school. One reason is because plenty of nursing students gave me that advice plus our school recommended it. What has it done for me... Well I love it. I only study the parts we are covering in class and then I review those areas we have already covered during breaks. What has it done for me programs NCLEX pass rate...we are at a 100% first time pass rate. Anyone that takes HESI with there program using NCLEX books helps with those too. I have a 99.99% and over 1200 score. I think it is because of the NCLEX books. One test I didn't have enough time with other obligations to do the questions, I just read and I did not pass my test. Just my little advice. Good luck to you.

NCLEX prep books may as well be in Japanese to you now. Yes go ahead and calm (or excite) any body area you choose, but leave the NCLEX out of it.
I would suggest you get an NCLEX prep book (I used Saunders) after your first semester. Read the strategy section then AND before every semester. You get more out of it as you go along; it can also make for good study group questions for exams.
