Study while commuting???

I also commuted over an hour to nursing school and I recorded the lectures. I listened to them while driving, and found it very helpful. However you need to check with each instructor because not all of them allow you to record the lectures.

iPhones have a "voice memo" program and there are several available for purchase; however, you can accomplish the same thing with an iTouch if you do not want to switch out your phone.

Most digital recorders have an earphone jack. I record my lectures and I re listen to them, so I am positive this is a good way to use your time. On the other hand, you might just need to use your drive to clear your head, rock out and spend some time for YOU!

I have an Android phone (Samsung Galaxy S3) and I use an app called "Smart Voice Recorder". I have an auxiliary port in my car, so I use an aux cable to connect my phone to my stereo and I listen to the lectures like that. If your car is newer, it probably has bluetooth audio for your phone, so it's just a simple matter of turning the bluetooth on on your smartphone and pairing it with your car, then playing the recording.

Hey Pipestone! I have been thinking about doing the same thing. Mind if I add one more question to your post? I'm also wondering what people store the recorded lectures on? Doesn't it use a lot of space on your phone?

My digital recorder came with an USB cord that you can transfer the files to your computer. You can do this on an iPhone as well. Just make sure if you are getting a digital recorder that you make sure that it is downloadable because not all of them are.

Check with your school too. My school records the lectures and puts them on podcasts. Whenever I am in the car I listen to them ad nauseum.

When I saw the title of the thread I imagined you driving alomg with a big txtbook balanced on the steering wheel, haha.

Really good idea, though Pipestone. Unless you get an instructor who talks like Ben Stein in the Ferris Bueller movie, then he'd lull you off to sleep!

I have a Livescribe pen that records lectures as you write notes (in special notebooks), and when you plug them into the computer it syncs the recording with your written notes. The pen also does play back, so I listen to the lectures from that when I do not have my computer in front of me. The notebooks aren't very expensive. It is nice to write with once you get used to it...it is bigger and heavier than most pens so it did take a while to get used to it. Now I love it though.

I also have the livescribe pen and LOVE it. I believe you can print your own dot paper for it too, though I personally have not tried that. The notebooks are about $25 for a pack of 4 on amazon. If you're really interested in getting a good deal on the pen though you can buy the refurbished ones from the store direct or go on ebay/amazon for used deals. Just make sure you do a reset before recording any notes!

One last thing I'll add to loving this pen is you can use an app so it'll turn your notes into flashcards.. pretty helpful. I love this pen, it's been a lifesaver!
