Stopped at 85...FAILED

Hi,

I am finally over with my grieving process on this NCLEX. I received my eligibility for my next NCLEX exam and i am planning to take it in June after I attend a review class in Chicago. A lot of people here think 85 is a good number when your computer shot down. and they said you will pass..OH well..I stopped at 85 I FAILED the damn test...I guess its really up to you how you take the exam...a lot of people pass at 85 ...maybe the computer didnt like me so i failed. Hopefully i will pass next try..but hopefully i dont stop at 85...GOOD LUCK TO ALL !!:smokin::twocents:

You failed at 85? Our professor has drilled it in our head that anything less than 85 is a failure but once you are at 85 you are safe. Wow.... I hope when you take the NCLEX in June you blow it out of the water! Our school just adopted the ATI program and we have our first 'major' test on the 1st to see how well we are doing. We are not going to be graded on it but if we do score a certain amount, we get extra points added to our final. My class thinks it is a big joke and no one is studying for it. I've tried reviewing the ATI information but my grades have dropped at least 10 points since I started studying ATI. I don't think it is at fault of ATI, but of my professor because her exams are dung. They aren't even stated like the NCLEX. Anywho, I'll look up some information about the NCLEX score.

Thats what i thought when i finished the exam and got home. I've waited for a whole entire month knowing that i passed...but I FAILED...So 85 is also a failing number...

So, in order to pass the NCLEX you have to score say an 86? I'm going to look this up, I'm curious now.

your instructor is incorrect.

the NCLEX is a computer adaptive test that gives you easier or harder questions based on how you score on the previous question. once it determines a level of minimal competency, it will shut off. if the computer stays on the "easy" level questions too long and you do not answer enough of the "harder" questions correctly, it will keep going until you have been unable to prove minimal competency, or until you start answering the "harder" questions correctly to prove minimal competency.

the minimum number of questions on the NCLEX-RN is 75 and the maximum is 265.

the minimum number of questions on the NCLEX-PN is 85 and the maximum is 205.

there are 15 questions on both the NCLEX-RN and NCLEX-PN that DO NOT COUNT. you do not know which questions these are, they are expirmental questions and do not go towards your competency score.

i passed my boards with 85 questions. my boyfriend passed with 265.

i know people who have both passed and failed at 75, 85, 110, 128, 205, 229....

you never know.

the number of questions you have is not a determination of pass/fail. tell your instructor to stop trying to scare you guys.

I had 75 and passed. Many people pass with a 75 so what that professor said was nonsense.

I agree. Its really up to you to study. Your test strategies and how you understand the questions. Rationale are important. I was so nervous when i took it the first time. Im a good test taker but i have too many stressors around me and i didnt get much support from my family and only study for two hours a day without taking the sample test..my mistake. But hopefully i wont do it again this time since I quit qork for two months two be able to really focus on it and not bother with work and people i work with..I really hope and pray it work this time..Wish me luck..

the anxiety for me was truly the worst part of the NCLEX.

anything more than two hours of studying a day is too much, i think. you will put your brain into overdrive. you need to take time for you too during the whole process to try and relax and clear your mind so you can focus.

i used my earplugs during the test. it helped alot.

I read some of your past threads and you studied in PI for LPN. I too did the same... How long did it take for you to get an ATT?? Did you have to go thru CGFNS as well?? I applied for California and still waiting for the approval.

See, here's MY take on this subject: If you start seeing a LOT of SATA's, meds and lab values then chances are, you are doing well and have a strong possibility of passing with whatever number your exam shuts off with. I know there are people in here who are CONVINCED that those are just "types" of questions and not an indication of how you did but I believe otherwise. Every person I've spoken to who have taken the nclex (inlcuding myself) and have gotten a lot of SATA's passed.

I'm not saying though that if you get much less or none at all that you failed because I do know some who did pass with hardly any SATA questions. I just think that these are in fact high level type questions and a good indication that you're doing well on the nclex.

2brichielpn08: Don't despair...I failed at my first attempt but I never gave up. I added NCLEX 4000 along with Kaplan and passed it on my second try. I did only Kaplan the first time and I think it screwed up my way of thinking. NCLEX 4000 makes you LEARN the material as you take their tests. Kaplan is mostly strategy which I believe did not help me by itself. Good luck and don't lose faith! :redbeathe

If the state requires the foreign nurse to go through CGFNS then you have to go through them. For most it is a evaluation on transcripts and ensuring that the course meets the state requirements. I do want to point out though that although a foreign nurse can sit and pass NCLEX PN it doesn't meet requirements for immigration IF you do not already have a visa allowing you to work in the US or are a US citizen. For immigration purposes you have to be RN
