  1. I'm assuming this isn't a NYSNA hospital because that is very low for NYC. I work in Brooklyn and make about $46/hr with nearly 7 years experience. Manhattan hospitals pay even more. I have an interview with a magnate hospital next week and the recruiter told me that they will pay "significantly more than that" (in reference to my current salary).
  2. It's dried up in NYC alright. I graduated from NYU's 15-month program last December and most of us don't have jobs either. A good number can't even get any interviews! I'm trying to work my connections right now and hopefully, something will pan out.
  3. If your last question was a SATA or Meds AND you've have a whole bunch of em, then I really think you have a good chance of passing. Most of my friends (including myself) passed with a ton of those types of questions. Mine stopped at 110 with 12-15 SATA's and a ton of meds. Goodluck! :redbeathe
  4. I took Kaplan by itself the first time I took the nclex and failed. I felt as if they want you to read into the questions too much so I did just that on the exam. The second time, I did Kaplan along with NCLEX 4000. The latter came highly recommended by friends who used them and came out of the exam KNOWING that they passed. I tried it and passed on my second try. NCLEX 4000 is great because their questions are very straight forward without being easy. You LEARN the material and their rationales are straight to the point. I would not however, recommend you to use it by itself without Kaplan. They way Kaplan words their questions is very similar to how the NCLEX would ask u questions. The difference is that the nclex choices are clear cut while Kaplan is more tricky. Do both and I really think you can pass the first time.
  5. SATA's and Meds...Prioritization I think is of medium difficulty because you just use your ABC guidelines to answer them.
  6. Here's what helped me pass: 1. Read the blue book from Kaplan (the meds part is optional if you would rather watch the vidoes on Pharm via their website) 2. Alternate between Kaplan Q-Banks and NCLEX 4000 questions. 3. Read the rationales if you can (I got lazy sometimes too but I made sure to read them at some point afterwards.) 4. Take Kaplan Question Trainer 5 & 6 a week before the exam. If you score below 60%, postpone and do some more questions. 5. Do whatever YOU want the day before. I personally still did 130 questions and read my notes the day before but I made sure to stop by 9:00 pm to relax. Then I watched a Golden Girls marathon on tv...Laughter is good for your brain. 6. Last but not least, pick a time for the exam that works for you. I personally did better on my practice tests whenever I took them in the afternoon so I scheduled my nclex for a 2:00 pm slot.
  7. See, here's MY take on this subject: If you start seeing a LOT of SATA's, meds and lab values then chances are, you are doing well and have a strong possibility of passing with whatever number your exam shuts off with. I know there are people in here who are CONVINCED that those are just "types" of questions and not an indication of how you did but I believe otherwise. Every person I've spoken to who have taken the nclex (inlcuding myself) and have gotten a lot of SATA's passed. I'm not saying though that if you get much less or none at all that you failed because I do know some who did pass with hardly any SATA questions. I just think that these are in fact high level type questions and a good indication that you're doing well on the nclex. 2brichielpn08: Don't despair...I failed at my first attempt but I never gave up. I added NCLEX 4000 along with Kaplan and passed it on my second try. I did only Kaplan the first time and I think it screwed up my way of thinking. NCLEX 4000 makes you LEARN the material as you take their tests. Kaplan is mostly strategy which I believe did not help me by itself. Good luck and don't lose faith! :redbeathe
