Stony Brook Basic BSN Fall 2012

Hello everyone!

I applied to Stony Brook's Basic (2-year) BSN program 3 weeks a go and thought it may be helpful to start up a forum.

If you are:

currently applying or plan on applying, a former applicant, a current SBU student, I'd love to hear from you!

Has everyone finished their perquisites? Does anyone else have a not so competitive GPA (like me)? Does anyone know who is considered a competitive applicant? Where is everyone else applying?

I look forward to speaking with everyone and hopefully entering the Fall '12 class together!

Hello everyone,

I have a question to newly accepted students: do we allow to register for classes yet? I look at my solar page but I couldn`t see any information. And also, do you guys have any idea about our orientation date?

Thanks.

Folks, in case you didn't see it, Paco put a fantastic summary of classes/text/ and many other issues to guide your decisions under the accelerated class of 2013 blog it is right on the money!!! Paco awesome effort, I concur.

Also make sure you start working on getting all those medicals/ titres/ CPR for Healthcare requirements etc done early. Then you can enjoy a little bit of summer I hope, for you loooooong wait, I think you deserved it.

Good luck all and again to anyone on a waiting list, they take attendence on the first day and if someone does not show they are on the phones telling people to get there now! I know someone who is graduating now that got that call on the first day of class. Also good idea to get there early that first day. If you have never visited the school, your first day you can't get in the parking lot near the SoN so you have to park in the paid lot by the hospital and enter the hospital and get over three building while staying indoors. It is a crazy layout and I would suggest dropping off your completed packet of stuff one day in summer and making it an excuse to find the place. (bring food, tent, compass and breadcrumbs to mark a trail) It is a crazy building and the escalator construction really messes things up. After two weeks I was able to find the bathroom on a consistant basis and considered that one of my top ten life accomplishments (and I have been around a while). Enjoy the first semester the professors were excellent but the work is a challange (but doable). See you in August!

Buckeroo out!

Thanks for all the awesome info guys! This may sound silly but what is the "titres"? Alev when i called asking a couple of questions i was told that we are signed up for our classes at orientation. and the date for our orientation has not been set yet. At least that is one less thing to worry about. :)

Thank you kaywal17 for your answer. It is good to know that.

The titres are to see if you have immunity to certain diseases, like measles, mumps, etc. If you don't have proof of innoculations (when I got mine pencil and paper had not been invented yet and it was too much trouble for the doctor to write the immunization record on the cave wall) you will have to get titres of antibodies from a blood sample. Not a big deal but SBU is VERY specific of what they want. All the links for forms and instructions will be sent to you, I would suggest getting it done early in the summer, before you know it you will be starting.

If I got my vaccines as well as a titer test before can't I just get those copies?

I believe I got a titer test a few years ago

SBU 2 yr, Pace 1 year, or LIU 15months..

I don't feel excited when i got accepted into 2 yr SBU. it is taking too long. what do you think? I can graduate next summer if i go for LIU or Pace.

Jacky chan..are you thinking of declining your acceptance?

Fellow classmates! I was emailing the coordinator about some questions i had and i thought id pass some of this info along :).

"As for the malpractice insurance, all will be discussed at orientation. We accept malpractice

insurance from Marsh/Affinity, NSO, CM&F, MEDPRO and Farmers if you want to

investigate now. Tentatively the orientation dates are August 23 & 24.

Regards, ****"

Cant wait for orientation! BioD did you figure out any info about the medical forms?

Thanks Kaywal! Did they say anything about schedules? Should we purchase insurance before the orientation?

I heard from admissions that our schedules will be handeled at orientation. I think the schedules are pretty regimented so they sit there with us and sign us up for what we need. Then the coordiantor said they will discuss malpratice insurance at orientation but if i wanted to go ahead and do it now, those are the types of insurances they accept. I think im gonna wait till after orientation to purchase though . cause i dont know what type, or how long i should get it for, whats the best prices, etc so yea hope that helps :)
