stethoscopes, too heavy?

Hi, I'm new to this forum. I start nursing school in the fall. I was debating to whether to buy a Littman Cardiology III, Littman Classic II Se, or Littman Lightweight SE II. I know the Cardiology III is the best, however, my aunt was saying that anyone of the scopes with the double bell just get too heavy by the end of a 12-hour shift. What stethoscope do you suggest? Do I really need a scope as good as a Cardiology III as a nurse? Thanks.

I have a Master Cardiology - they can be kind of expensive - but it's the best, IMHO. It's not light, but I got used to it.

I went through all but the last 8 weeks of nursing school with the Littmann Lightweight. It was adequate, but then I got the Cardiology III. WOW. This is a very individual thing, but for me it made a big difference in what I'm able to hear.

It is noticeably heavier than the Lightweight, but I haven't found it to be too heavy. The tubing of the lumen does, however, "stick" to my skin a little more than the Lightweight. Again, not a problem, just something that I've noticed.

Hi, this doens't have much to do w/ the scope issue, but I am new to the site also and just wanted to say hi because we both seem to go to msu if your msu stands for michigan state university, and I wanted to say congrats to your acceptance and good luck in the fall. I will be applying in the fall hopefully for admission for the spring, maybe I'll see ya around.

Thanks! :) I just got my letter a few days ago. Good luck on your admission. We got lucky - No orgo for us! Hopefully I'll see ya around. Go Spartans!

I had the Littmann Lightweight through nursing school and got the Littmann Master II after graduation. The weight doesn't bother me, I can hear much better and it is easy to get accustomed to.

I have both a double and a single.... I don't carry them around my neck the whole shift so I don't think weight is an issue when you find the one you like.

Cardiology III here also. I really don't think it felt too heavy at all. If you do find that it does, there are little "holsters" for your belt that the scope fits into.

My main problem was that after being folded or looped about the neck it took awhile to get the tubing straight again.

I too recieved the Littmann cardiology III for Xmas and it is the best stethoscope I've ever used. My husband bought it for me and found it on the internet for much cheaper than retail. I also thought it was sticky it really bothered my skin. i know that at some uniform shops sell a stocking that goes over it but I just used some of that stockinete stuff you put over someones arm or leg it works just as good.
