Has anyone taken Statistics??? I HATE Math, particulary Algebra...glad I have that part out of the way. Anyhow for those that have taken Statistics, I just wanted to get your view on the difficulty of the course, and if you think its a good or bad idea to take the course online or on campus. Your input is GREATLY appreciated.

Ok this might not be an accurate representation since I LOVE math
I took an on campus course because I learn better when I actively participate in a classroom environment.
I thought it was no more difficult than Algebra. If it makes you feel better my stats teacher said the most important thing it to learn to understand what the results mean because no one actually crunches their own stats anymore it's all done by computer program

I hate math. Always have and always will. I have failed math courses before, and geometry made me question life. But I took college algebra and statistics this past year and got an A (algebra) and high B (statistics). I went into it with the mindset that I can do this. I actually appreciated statistics because it dealt with real world math. I felt it was useful. What also helped is that I had an excellent professor who was great at teaching. I did not find the course hard because it was explained to me in simple terms that I could understand. A teacher can make all the difference.
Thanks Sinman...I think I will take it on campus.

There are several different intro statistics courses available at most colleges and universities. You want the one for the social sciences majors, NOT the one for math majors. What you need it for is to learn how to evaluate research findings-- significance, power, etc., mostly.
I completely agree about the teacher-- a good one is especially important for this kind of thing because it's so out of the realm of most people's intuition. Ask about faculty evals from the last semester or so.
zoe92...I know EXACTLY what you mean. Algebra made me question life as well! I took it a few times before I finally passed. Those equations almost sends me into panic attacks! LOL seriously though I really dislike math. I agree having a good instructor can make a huge difference. I'm going to go ahead and go into with a positive frame of mind and try my hardest to knock it out. Thanks for the advice!
Thanks GrnTea!

Don't take online. You need the teacher's instruction and help. I enjoy math, but I would not be able to handle it if I only had the book and my own brain to work with. I'm taking statistics this semester and it really isn't bad. It's all word problems, something I hated in high school but have learned to figure out. Lots of probability. I at least feel like I'm learning something that applies to the real world. I don't really study for the class because the homework in and of itself is study time, getting you ready for the quizzes. And the quizzes help you study for the test. So, for me, I don't have to spend much time on the class outside of homework and reviewing my notes before quizzes and exams.

I agree, Statistics is not a class that you want to take online. You also want to find out if there is tutoring services available for students, that was a big help in my case.
Wow...I was feeling better about it earlier...now I'm getting scared again.

Totally agree about taking a Statistics for Social Science class vs. a more math based class. I hate math but was pleasantly surprised at the Stats class I took. It wasn't all math - our professor tested us on definitions and theory too. He explained things really well. I'd take it in person if possible. Good luck.
