I am starting orientation 1 wk from monday in a progressive care unit and I am really scared. I keep reading all these other post on here about these horrible experiences new nurses are having especially on the night shift, which is what I will be on. Is the first yr really that bad I mean I know its going to be hard but hopefully not miserable.

I am really afraid, I sometimes have difficulty being assertive in new enviroments, Im scared im going to get walked on.

Don't get ahead of yourself.

I like nights. The weird people collect there.

I agree, every place is different. I personally love the night crew on my floor, real teamwork, and always willing to answer a question.

Starting your first RN job is a bit scary but exciting also. I figure that more people write in if they are unhappy than ones that are plugging along just fine. I love my job. My co-workers for the most part are awesome, the pay is great and after being trained on days I went right to 7pm to 7am. It is a great shift for me. Good luck and let us know how you are making out!

I work nights and just started in August. Also a new nurse. I am not gonna lie to you, there are some nights when you wanna cry but you have to try to remember all the other good nights. There are the occassional tough nights and you will cry. I hate to tell you that but everyone goes through it. It's a big/tough adjustment from being a student to the nurse. Dont be afraid to ask questions. It will be tough but just take it one day at a time and hopefully everything will work out. it has for me!! best of luck to you!!! you can always vent on here. i have found this site to be very helpful and supportive!

i was the same way, patience is the key

You'll do fine I'm sure, but you must go in with a positive attitude. Having a negative attitude will only cause more undue stress. It's normal to have a little nervousness, but don't be really scared. okay?

I'm at 6 months now and I work nights. It's not bad. I learned to be a little more assertive, but for the mostpart things have gone smoothly. You're going to be great!

hello there:just wondering how are you doing in the new job. I started at about the same time and i am happy to say that so far i have been having a good time. :D

I have to agree with you. I like nights, my coworkers are awesome. I feel like I have learned so much in the past year and actually enjoy going to work. I have read enough posts on these forums about people being so anxious about work that they cry before/after/thinking about going in. I have NEVER shed a tear about this job. Things have moved along smoothly for me and I guess those of us with positive happy experiences are less likely to post and vent here then the unhappy ones, as Jules A mentioned. I hope you are part of the happy group!:wink2:
