Hi everyone!

Are you currently a CNA?? I know that was sooo super helpful in fundamentals!! It's best to stay a little ahead in reading....It's not to bad if you stay focused and study hard=) GOOD LUCK!!!!

Moved to the LVN/LPN Nursing Student forum. Good luck to you!

I start on the 28th, and (like everyone else) very nervous. I have student orientation on Thursday and we'll be getting our books then. I plan on reading a couple chapters the whole weekend, to get myself prepared. Especially if they try and surprise us w/ a pop quiz the following Mon. For the past couple of weeks I've been reviewing med terms and the human skeleton. I think I've been reading too many stories on this board, I really need to try and relax...LOL! Good Luck!!!

In my opinion, other than the required text books you should be fine. If you don't have a medical dictionary on your list, it may come in handy especially when reading through some chapters or lectures. Also a drug book and nursing diagnoses book maybe nice to have as well. When we started clinicals, we needed to make nursing goals and the diagnoses books came very handy to have mostly for additional ideas on how to improve outcomes that you didn't originally think of to do.

I'm a 3rd quarter LPN student and here are a few tips that I hope will help :)

Start a study group as soon as you can...Not only is it extremely helpful to study and bounce questions/answers off of eachother, but the emotional support you can get from these friends is a life saver!!

My motto is "keep your eyes on the prize!!" You simply have to put your head down and push through :)

You MUST take time out for yourself :) Believe me, as a Type A personality, this can be hard to do!! But taking time for yourself, even if it's 30 minutes to watch your favorite TV show or to read a magazine, this time is necessary to stay sane!!

Most importantly, have fun! Work your butt off, study like crazy, take it all in...and remember, there is a light at the end of the tunnel :)

Good luck!!

It sounds like you speak from experience! You go girl!

Thank you so much! I really appreciate it:wink2: will keep you updated

I just finished my program and I would just say try to stay as focused as possible. Just ignore whatever else is going on and focus on the prize(like someone else mentioned). It wouldn't hurt to start some NCLEX study questions as soon as possible! Good luck!!

Breathe, Learn ways to destress because you are going to need it. Stay focused, AVOID DRAMA, Study Groups are good it is so much manageable when you have someone to study with, Get an NCLEX book at least to browse through for the moment since you are just beginning, If you know what books you are going to use get them now and get a jump start. It is best to read before class so you will not be lost when the teacher is talking to you, Make sure you get adequate rest, DO NOT CRAM, MOST IMPORTANTLY MAKE TIME FOR YOURSELF, do not overstudy.

I wish you success with your program, I just finished and I am now in NCLEX mode.

I'm in my 4th week and I can't tell you how fast it is. My advice is to enjoy the time you have now and sleep and relax, because you won't be doing a lot of that in the next yr or how ever long your program is LOL. I have 3/4 tests a week so far and it's only going to get worse as time goes you. You just really have to keep up and keep up.
