It is my understanding that it is possible.
Guess we'll have to do some research.

I *believe* if you have a really short luteal phase (before egg) it is possible to ovulate while you are still bleeeding/spotting.
Some women spot around ovulation time so that should not be confused with a period. There is also implantation spotting if you get pregnant.
Not an expert, just a student. Check out Taking Charge of your Fertility. Lots of good info there and I am pretty sure would answer your question.

Now it doesn't sound weird and yes it is very possible. I had a friend who, believe it or not, only had sex while on her period because she couldn't take the pill, was allergic to latex and did not want to get pregnant. Ewww, but whatever. Anyway, she got pregnant having sex only during her period. She had an abortion. So yes it is possible and after the abortion her doctor told her the same thing so she ended up having a tubal.

Actually the luteal phase is the period of time from ovulation to the onset of the bleeding.
Actually the luteal phase runs from ovulation to the onset of bleeding. This is usually a regular period of time that last from 12-14 days. A short luteal phase can cause problems with implantation of a fertilized egg.
TCOYF is a great book, not only for someone who is trying to get pregnant but for those who are trying NOT to get pregnant. It also shows you how you hormones relate to other areas of your health as well.
