I have a second interview coming up which is about 4 hours away and I would like to stay over night to avoid the heavy traffic, etc.
My question is, is it reasonable to ask if HR can help pay for expense? A friend suggested that but I have never thought of that...? I am currently unemployed and they are aware of this.

If it's for a staff RN job, I doubt they would, particularly since it's "doable" to drive there and back in day. If you're interviewing for management, you have a little more leeway. Good luck!

If you are a new grad and/or need the job, I would not.If you are experienced in an in demand specialty, or being actively recruited......it is generally offered upfront, if available.

No way should you ask for that.

If it is a regular staff RN job I would not. There are plenty applicants for jobs and they do not need to pay for your stay. I'd suck up the expense or make the commute.

I agree with everyone else. HR knows where you live from reading your resume so they know how far you are traveling. If they had any intentions of paying for your travel, they would have offered.
